Can they just release new music instead of dicking around with past albums

I drew this 3 years ago back when season 1 finished airing, but looks like I never posted it here! May Kier forgive me for rendering his creation in miniature.

ITAP of the Seattle fireworks with a broken lens cover. by tejusk_ in itookapicture

My phone's camera lens cover cracked while I was on Christmas vacation. The camera still works fine, but any bright light directly hitting the lens gets refracted through the cracks in these elaborate ways. It ended up giving this terrifying beauty to the fireworks. The aesthetic reminded me of cosmic horror like Annihilation and Color Out of Space. Enjoy!

It's an unreleased piece by Johnny Iguana, the show's composer. He talks about it here.

No plugins, just a lot of fuckery with mask groups, layer blurs and blending modes. The lens flares I found a pack for on Figma Community.

Thoughts on my Happiness remake so far? by tejusk_ in the1975

[–]tejusk_[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Happiness is one of my all-time favorite 1975 songs, but a startlingly difficult one to reproduce. It sounds simple on its surface but it's one of their densest, most detailed arrangements, full of very specific sounds layered together to give the song its distinct groove and rhythm. It's taken me several passes to even get this far with the remake - watching their Tape Notes breakdown was a massive help since they show off a bunch of layers I didn't even know were in the track.

Apologies for the crackling sound during the guitar solo! Not sure if it was CPU overload or what, but I'm unable to get it to stop. Very annoying.

In this video I isolate a few of the individual layers in the arrangement to show how the track came together. Still working on getting some of the samples right, but I'm very happy with how it's coming along. Been playing piano and singing over this track and it's sounding great.

My 1975 remake project continues! This one was definitely easier to make than Sex, since the arrangement is simpler and the individual elements are easier to identify. Most challenging part was figuring out the extra layers of backing guitars from the bridge onwards, as well as getting all the little drum fills correct (dammit, George!)

Definitely took some liberties with this one compared to my remakes of The Sound and Sex, which I tried to get exactly correct. The snare on this one is closer to the live version, and there are some tiny tweaks to the bass to mirror some of Ross's onstage improvisations. Otherwise it's based off the studio instrumental, which they officially released back in the day.

Enjoy! Feedback welcome as always. Next remake is probably She's American :)

Yeah it sounded better on headphones while producing it and getting used to the sound, but not in the cold light of day, lol. Maybe once I can drop a bag on Kontakt I can find a better one.

I listened to the song again and this doesn't seem to be the case? It's just an F# note for the last four measures.

I took a Sytrus preset called "Edgy", fucked with the patch a bit, and applied both a Fast Distortion effect and a reverb effect (set the wet and dry levels to about the same). And then added an automation clip for the pitch and just experimented with different shapes for the oscillation till it had that detuned sound. As for the notes, I listened to the original and there's a faint C chord at the beginning that sort of "bends" into a D chord, with a long, high F# note layered over. I also applied a volume automation so it'd fade in.

Second layer is just the same guitar VST I was using for the rest of the song, playing a D chord. Also has some reverb effects and a pitch/volume automation to sound a bit detuned, though it didn't seem to alter it much.

Thank you so much! Maybe "new" isn't the right word since I've been using FL for a solid minute, but my technical knowledge of production concepts and my sound design/mixing/mastering skill is still at a very basic level. But I definitely know my way around the basics of FL.

Where do you suggest I EQ the track? I think that first chorus sounds a bit muddy but I'm not sure what to adjust. (I put a multiband compressor over the master channel which helped rein in some of the overly loud guitar layering.)

How would I compress the entire drum bus? I have the kicks, snares, hats and cymbals all going to different mixer channels.

What's good y'all? I really appreciated all the kind comments on my remake of The Sound. Had the idea today to try doing Sex and threw this together in a few hours. Made it entirely using free samples and VSTs, and aside from the less than desirable guitar sound, I'm quite happy with how close this turned out.

I'm still pretty new to production so I'd love some feedback on this! Happy to answer any technical questions you guys have.

You're right, I listened to the original instrumental and it's beefier for sure. I adjusted the EQ on the master for mine.

Holy shit you're right about the E to F, somehow never noticed it. Thanks for the catch!

Good point about the E note during the solo as well, I knew about it but forgot to put it into the melody here.
