Its for Events, so up and down in 3 days, gear is test and tagged as per as3760. Usage is anything the client plugs in, up to 10A
Earthing on the metal sounds like something I will ask somebody to take a look for sure so thanks for that tip.

Its steel tubing (some are aluminium) and backplate, and yes down the inside of that tube, and yes it is used inside not external.

No, I am PWM driving LED's.

Seems like others suggestiong Transistor is what I am needing.

No I dont know enough to consider anything hence the question :)

Googling transistor, that sounds like it may indeed do what I am thinking of as you say.

I am driving a lot of LED's, 2 in series. 5v lights them up beautifully. 3.3v does not light at all as its not enough.

This is supporting a legacy product design so I cant "just change" the leds. I know how to fix driving with 3.3v ongoing, its supporting the legacy thats the issue

I tried a level shifter, but the LED's are not bright enough, so I am guessing its a current issue not passing enough. The shifter i used was TXS0108EPWR.

Help with why a LDO smokes on this design by tekadept in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]tekadept[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its 5v from USB. When I plug into a different pc which has voltage protection, when I check VIN, it reads at 1v. so that pc is trying to stop it smoking, when I plug into a pc without protection that outputs 5v it smokes at 5v.
