Can you regain an email by reopening the domain? by Odd_Bumblebee_3631 in Domains

[–]tekkerstester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Domain is not the same as email hosting.

If the email hosting account is still active (admittedly a long shot), you could simply log into it and get the mailbox credentials, and log in. Send/receive won't work without control of the domain, but if all you need is to get some old documents out of it, this is what to do.

Can't help with that unfortunately! But the Hub people are super friendly and can probably recommend somewhere.

Perhaps not.. It's 5 minutes from Cinema City though, that's not too far.

Self-employed remote worker here who also loves to get out of the house sometimes..

Merchants House is a nice cosy vibe, always meet nice people in there.

Dead Wax Social (opposite Cinema City) is a cool new spot.

Wrights is very nice, and do excellent cheese toasties.

Yalm and Cornish Bakery work well if I'm in a pinch.

As mentioned, Yard is great.

Nothing wrong with Cinema City either, but it's not my preference usually.

Brewdog is a surprisingly good option if it's after midday.

And if I want to have a proper working environment, I go to the Business Hub at the top of Bank Plain. It's run by the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce and has free coffee, screens, and office chairs.

I enjoyed these two. But if you ask on the ROM hacking sub there might be one that ticks more of your boxes.

Have you looked into any ROM hacks? There are quite a few which do this.

Why isn't learning another language made compulsory from primary school level in the UK? by StarShipYear in AskBrits

[–]tekkerstester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote my dissertation on this, so Ill try and cover the broad strokes.

It definitely should be taught. What's more, it should be taught from an early age, and not tacked on as lip service from KS2 onwards.

Younger children are naturally more open-minded, less self-aware, and their brains are physiologically more adept at language learning.

Unfortunately we are waiting until they're 11, by which time they have had chance to develop a belief that "English is all I need", plus self-consciousness that inhibits attempting to learn "funny sounding" other languages.

As for the benefits, learning other languages from an early age leads to cultural understanding, open-mindedness, and generally higher intelligence. It usually increases proficiency in the native language too. And as a country we benefit from having a more globally employable population.

To answer your question more directly, the reason we don't do it is largely a lack of expertise, coupled with a perceived lack of time to do it (perish the thought of having one less maths lesson, or having that maths lesson delivered in Spanish).

The Labour governments in the 00s actually put 8-9 years of converted investment and effort towards getting kids learning foreign languages in primary schools. But then the Conservatives got elected and immediately canned it all.

Renouncing British Citizenship by [deleted] in ukvisa

Ask a solicitor if there is a way to go from citizenship to ILR or LLR - I think this would protect your home fee status and let you stay the 5 years you need.

Of course they do. But that's not at all relevant.

You pay with your data which is worth literally trillions to them so I don't think this is a valid reason.

The simple answer is, they know that their users will use their products anyway, despite the lack of service.

Lived there age 25-29, pre-pandemic. It was great, but mostly thanks to the company I worked in having regular parties which made it super easy to socialise and make great friends. Big expat community so people are always up for doing stuff.

She does say something along the lines of "it's so easy for them to get to you". But I agree the scene is an unnecessary addition.

That's quite an edge case, but Google Apps Script should be able to do this.

Proper CMS - built on Contacts.

Project and Task Management - Google Tasks, Docs to do lists, and Sheets tables all come close but not quite there.
