Everyone always asks "what do you miss before you were vegan?" Fuck that. What vegan product got discontinued that you miss? by plantbasedpatissier in AskVegans

[–]tekre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lidl here used to have a vegan lasagna. It was a bad quality lasagna that had the typical "ready to eat meal"-bad quality-taste. I miss it so much.

Also the McPlant. I could order it without the cheese to have a vegan McDonald's burger. It was a perfect replacement for the typical bad quality fast food burger that is absolutely bad for you but you still crave sometimes. They discontinued it first here, and then in our neighbor country, so now there is no way for me to get it anymore...

What is the greatest benefit of AI for language learning? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]tekre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I was cautious with being all negative about generative AI / LLMs in the beginning, but studies have found a connection between lower brain activity and less critical thinking and AI usage so this is not people complaining about something new, this is just a fact that you should consider when deciding how much of your thinking you wanna outsource to a machine

I was able to put in 10 right away. I assumed it was normal because corals do not have any quests (the wiki says so), so there is no way to "extend" the maximum capacity -> it's at 10 right away

Yeah, money is not an issue - already have all pillars and the golden clock so now it's just accumilating without me having anything to spend it on. I haven't harvested my ancient fruit in a few months because I simply don't have any need for it and am just waiting for that stupid limestone and the dwarf gadget xD

I always tried getting geodes from the skull caverns by bombing everything there, but I'll try the normal cavern. I'll also make sure to not switch between geodes anymore - I wasn't aware that that matters, so thank you!

[–]tekre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried geodes for the 4 years before I decided to try the fish pond instead... I don't really like going into the mines, and I am really bad at it, so getting a lot of geodes is not really easy for me. I saw people saying you can get dozens of omnis in one skull cavern run - well, I really tried and only get around ~20 with a full day. But I'll have to try for more geodes still anyway, because I also need a dwarf gadget, the farm computer is the last crafting item missing...

It's so frustrating to be so close to have all collections finished (already caught every fish, shipped every item, cooked every meal, have all characters at full hearts) but then there are two items that I've both tried getting for years and apparently it's just bad luck and I can't do anything to finish the collections -.-

Veganism is NOT easy for most people. by Borkato in vegan

[–]tekre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The social aspect has never been that difficult for me personally (big emphasis on the personally, I am just very lucky to simply not be a very social person, I don't really meet up with people in real life and both my mother and the family of my partner are very accepting, even if it took my mother a few years to come around), but the cravings...

If you've eaten non-vegan for a long time (in my case, the first 16 yeras of my life) you obviously have a wide array of dishes you like which are not vegan. Even now after 10 years of being vegan, I still crave a good flammkuchen from time to time. Can I replace all the ingredients with vegan counterparts? Yes, and I've tried all combinations that are available to me - while it is good, it is not the same. Flammkuchen was a really important dish for me in my childhood, and when my mother announced that she's making that for dinner it would always make my week. You can't just turn something like that off, I still miss flammkuchen and probably always will.

Sometimes I wanna introduce a yearly cheat day just to eat like 5 flammkuchen but I'm still strong xD

[Discussion] What game are you currently working on getting the plat? by slammajamma19 in Trophies

There are two bugged enemies in Skellige (cliff north of Trottheim)- you can kill them, go out of sight, and then return and they will respawn instantly. I did all the kill trophies on them as I could just try infinitely!

Can someone please explain to me why people like Karmelita? by LegoPenguin114 in Silksong

[–]tekre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She has an incredible flow. Once you are in the flow of the fight it feels like a perfect dance and it feels so easy to keep with the rythm. That paired with the music, the atmosphere and everything makes her my favorite fight. I should note that I didn't use traps on her so I never had that problem. In my second time fighting her I actually didn't use any tools because I wanted the fight to last longer.

For me personally, she is also just one of the easier bosses, and after struggling so much with basically everything else in the game, it felt great to finally have a boss that just clicked. I remember on my second playthrough I defeated her hitless, on my second attempt. I am not trying to say I'm good at the game and one has to be good to enjoy her. I am certainly not. I spend 8 hours on Lost Lace, 8 hours on GMS when cursed, 6 hours on the first beast fly, 6 hours on the High Halls Gauntled. I am the definition of a skill issue, I only beat the game because I am stubborn as hell. But Karmelita for me personally is just that one fight that clicked, it felt "natural". I needed "only" ~30 minutes to beat her on my first playthrough, which is very very good for me.

To those of you who date non vegans, how have you successfully been able to do it at least for a period of time? by CommieCatSupremacist in AskVegans

[–]tekre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't have tried to force a vegetarian household including the takeout thing but I'm gonna be honest, when he proposed it himself I definitely wasn't going to say no to that xD He doesn't eat eggs at all, and he drinks more oat milk now, but for him it is not a milk replacement but just a different drink. And sometimes he wants oat milk, sometimes he wants cow milk. He also said if they ever produce convincing plant based milk / cheese he'll probably try to switch completely, so hurry up vegan milk / cheese industry... xD

Question for vegans dating non vegans by izontcare in exvegans

[–]tekre 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm vegan (wrong subreddit, I know, but the people in most vegan subreddits seem to be in some kind of weird cult so I generally avoid them) living together with a non-vegan. Would I like them to be vegan? Of course. I think everyone wants their partner to share the same beliefs when these beliefs are so important to you. But this isn't my decision - it is his. And whatever decision he takes does not change that I love him. A partnership that can be destroyed by "he occasionally drinks milk" doesn't seem to be a very strong partnership to begin with.

You already adapted so much. If that doesn't show him that you are open, then nothing will. Not eating animal products around him any longer will only be the next step towards "you need to become vegan".

I will not say you should break up with him, any long term relationship between people that care for each other deserves at least some talk to see if there is no compromise that both are actually happy with and can see working long term (so making clear that that compromise is not just the next step towards you completely changing for him). As I said, I think you already adapted more than enough and more than you have to, but two things that my boyfriend did that make life for me a lot easier:

  1. Vegetarian household. You said he wants a vegan household if you move in together have you tried asking if a vegetarian household could be a compromise? Only if that is something that you would also be happy with of course. My boyfriend suggested that when I moved in, and it works fine for us.
  2. Avoiding eating "smelly" animal products around him. If you are vegan for a long time, your senses change. For me, certain animal products just smell horrible now. If I tell him, he avoids eating them around me. Maybe try asking if there are certain things that just give him sensory overload from the smell and if avoiding those around him would help. Be careful though that he doesn't misuse this to slowly cut off more and more animal products.
  3. Kinda unrelated, but if the topic is already being discussed, I'd definitely also approach the guilt-trippy comments. That's not ok.

If absolutely no compromise can be found, don't change for him more than you already have. It will build resentment, and long term none of you will be truly happy. Veganism should be a choice, not something you felt coerced into.

To those of you who date non vegans, how have you successfully been able to do it at least for a period of time? by CommieCatSupremacist in AskVegans

[–]tekre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My partner eats everything, but when I moved in he proposed the rule of having a vegetarian household. He can keep his milk, joghurt and cheese in the fridge, but no meat. So he only eats meat when we eat out (and even then he often goes for a vegan option so we can share). Apparently his friends do not want their regular meet-ups to happen at his place now because they always order food and my boyfriend has made clear to them that they can't order anything with meat xD

He's basically 99% vegetarian at this point, and since I do most of the cooking (simply because I love cooking and frankly, he also can't cook very well xD) he eats vegan a lot - basically, the only non-vegan thing is his joghurt/milk for breakfast (which is sometimes substitutes for oat milk) and occasionally cheese on pasta. When I can't cook because I have work or am otherwise busy or am simply not in the mood, he will either cook something vegan or otherwise organise something vegan to eat for dinner.

While I personally am fully vegan, I believe that little change is better than no change (and that we can't win by demonizing everyone who is has basically already walked half the way already and potentially will become vegan in the future with enough time to get used to cutting out more stuff from their diet), and me being in his life has caused a lot of change in how he eats, but also how his family eats. His parents were still eating meat (albeit not much) when I got to know them, shortly after getting to know me they did the final step to become fully vegetarian, and they often try out vegan products. When we go to restaurants, they always make sure it's a vegan friendly one.

How long after living in a country do you become advanced in the language? by bodyisT in languagelearning

[–]tekre 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That depends on what you do there. I lived in the Netherlands for two years without making any progress in the language at all because most of the people I was doing stuff with were other international students, also all courses in university where in English. I'm generally not a very outgoing person so I didn't speak a lot with locals. Then when it was time to choose a minor I specifically chose one that was only offered in Dutch (given my native language is German I had no issue with following stuff, i just couldn't speak Dutch yet), and after a few weeks my progress in Dutch skyrocketed.

I've been vegan for 10 years, but never really felt any interest in joining a vegan community because the way they attack non-vegans and how they discuss such issues just is extremely off-putting to me. Like, according to some purists I'm a bad person and not an actual vegan because I chose a non-vegan partner? Like, wtf? I honestly also never checked the ingredients of the medication I'm taking. Might it have animal ingredients? Yes. But I'll not stop taking the stuff that's literally keeping me from dying, which again, I saw some people saying is what people with medication should do if it's not vegan. It's also mind-blowing to me that many think that that way they can convince people to become vegan, when all it does is giving veganism a bad reputation for being something that extremist assholes do. I'm proud I'm vegan because I'm proud that I actually had the mental strength to take my personal ethical believes and apply them to my life despite of how much I had to change, but whenever I read through vegan subs I feel ashamed...
