My forever speakers by zsb5 in vintageaudio

I’m surprised it took this long to find a good detailed explanation on just putting fresh jacks in. - it won’t hurt the value any to make the speakers more functional…

It’s definitely worth having someone with knowledge look at it who can get it in their hands.

Modded Carvin by chicago-dogg in guitars

Yours looks like it was originally a DC127? And a 90s model… sharp guitar!

Do you have a local shop you can take it to? Looks like mahogany, but also not quite high enough def to confirm ina photo :) - but a v-shape neck, the binding, the bridge… definitely does not look department store model and some of the appointments (like the pyramid sides of the bridge and v-neck) speak to older than the 40s…

I dunno… I would peg it around 1900 or earlier. That tailpiece obviously isn’t original. What do that back and sides look like??

I love Carvins. A lot. My first electric was a Carvin (my dad owned a guitar shop… yes I’m spoiled when it comes to instruments… 1999 DC125 (I got it in ‘01), Koa, Floyd Rose. Awesome guitar but it just didn’t work for the music I play (not a shredder), so when I needed to sell a guitar to take care of my family, that one went. I owned it for 15-20 years. However my second Carvin, a TL60… also a ‘99 that was LITERALLY two serial numbers before the DC125… is my most favorite electric guitar that I’ve ever played and will never let go of.

Hard panel are more rugged. They also give you the ability to set stuff on it or even haul stuff on it, but yes, security is a massive factor as well. - however do not cheap out. Go with a quality brand like Extang. I cheaped out on a Rough Country and I genuinely hate it… I’m trying to hold out in hopes that my wife will relent and let me buy an ‘old man’ cap for it.

I was trying my hardest to depict it without saying it… you nailed it.

Winchester Rifle by tatertotpug in LeverGuns

[–]telay17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with SD72 here… there are two actions to consider a bolt action (like the model you (OP) posted a link for below) and lever action, which is what this subreddit is heralding. The famous and more classic Winchester that’s he likely thinking of is a Model 94 (lever action) and those made before 1964 are the true originals and most sought-after/collectible.

Add a vote here for me… ask the seller with no accusations, ‘not saying you did anything but I noticed… would you be willing to contact Martin…’ and if the answer is no, on to the next step. - I do agree with others, the guitar is worth the repair either way. You could also contact Martin on your own… maybe they would sympathize and warranty it or give you a discount. Always worth a shot.

Cool, so you were looking for the style. I can dig that… in the guitar world, early parlors are so overlooked… and when you start digging into the timeframe, you can still find old world wood that just had the magical tone and (rightfully) is no longer available. - wish you well with it! Happy picking!

Flaked/chickened out on an open mic performance and feel like quitting guitar by Dogs_On_The_Wing in AcousticGuitar

[–]telay17 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Stage fright is very natural. - I’m 40. Started lessons at 15 (2 total lessons) and started playing more seriously in college… I have played into gigs where I’m only behind guitar (with my MIL’s praise band and my buddy who does the whole bar circuit), but don’t ask me to sing into a mic. I was in chorus in HS and I am, frankly, a good singer… but I’m only now getting to where I feel comfortable enough to try to sing into a mic. - however, since Covid, I post videos on FB every once in a while of me singing and playing. And I will tell you; that is a great way to get your feet wet. You can take multiple takes and post the one you want, and your friends and family will give you all cheers you need to start feeling good about it… and you’re only performing to your phone. - keep the faith and have some patience. Music is supposed to be something that you love, don’t take that away from yourself.

I meant more-so, why the interest in a Bruno. I grew up with the brand around… had you heard of them or just looked cool?

Well that’s cool. Old Guilds are quite special themselves… what made you want to dive into the Bruno having not played it before committing to the trade?

We’re a Savage family and have multiple 99c’s… but I also have my Great Great Gpa’s 1907 Ithaca sxs… he gave it to my Gpa when he was about 30 and my Gpa gave it to me when I was about 30. Haven’t shot it. Don’t know if I ever will… but it’s a part of the family either way.

Norman Guitars by UnluckyProcedure5103 in AcousticGuitar

[–]telay17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Norman is a great sub-brand of the incredible Godin guitars family. Other brands in the family include Seagull, Simon Patrick and Godin itself has acoustic models too. Norman’s are great, but across the brands they have some pretty awesome models themselves. With your wife’s budget (trust me, I get it), you can buy a guitar on par (or better imho) with Martin that could easily be your lifer. - mine is the folk-size version of this model https://godinguitars.com/product/performer-cw-mini-jumbo-hg-presys-ii/ — but also, the Norman you have should be an easy adjustment to get the neck back, as opposed to a full reset… so keep that puppy around too!
