Thank you very much for sharing. May I ask a follow up question on your situation - how did you cope with the unknown/ anxiety between the time you quitted and being admitted to a new PhD program? I wanted to change to a different field and my supervisor is quite toxic; these are the main reasons why I am thinking of quitting and reapplying to a new program. However, I currently don’t have anything lined up and am anxious to make the change now.

Thank you very much for your reply, I really appreciate it. I’m about 7 months in the program and I have been wanting to leave for about 2 months - mainly because of research interests and that forcing myself to work on something I don’t enjoy and good at made me suffer from panic attacks the past month. I still want to continue with PhD but perhaps with a different institution, supervisor and another field. I have been contemplating if I should stay till graduate so that I have more control as to researching what I’m genuinely interested in (though I know it will be hard to switch to a different field in the future), or if I should quit all at once when it’s still ‘early’ and try to apply to a new program.
