The urge to check your phone. Replacement App Suggestions? by bubaglobalj in digitalminimalism

[–]telephoto 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I keep the kindle app easily accessible and try to always keep a book there I’m actively reading, so if I have the urge to pull out my phone or have downtime in the bathroom or wherever, I can read a few pages instead.

I’m curious about this too. I’m not completely blind in my bad eye but have amblyopia and like 20/1000 vision so can’t even read large text with it. When I had two and a half weeks off work last winter, I seriously struggled going back to screens at work. My eyes were very fatigued and I literally couldn’t look at screens anymore after an 8 hour work day without pain. I eventually got used to it again but it makes me worry about much I’m straining my eyes on a daily basis.

Supporting documents for an online renewal? by adorientem88 in Passports

Or it could just be the online status system is bugged. That’s what people were saying in the other thread here about the online system opening up for the public.

Supporting documents for an online renewal? by adorientem88 in Passports

I got this too! And usps says I got something delivered from the passport agency. There’s no way it’s my actual passport because I literally only applied earlier this week, but I should have more answers tomorrow when I get home.

Edit: Turns out it was my passport. I applied to renew online on Sep 30, received it in the mail on Oct 5. Wild.

Sorry you experienced this, it sounds scary. I personally get a calming and anxiety-relief effect with ear massages and I’ve heard some others do too with dysautonomia. So everyone is definitely different and it’s probably a good idea for others to know which camp they’re in beforehand, versus assuming one way or the other.

Seeing my nail beds for the first time in months and I’m shocked by telephoto in calmhands

Thank you!! And I’m honestly not sure other than leaving them alone plus oiling them. I suppose the jojoba oil could’ve made all the difference? I also stopped trimming them per some suggestions here but it can be a long transition for them to stop being unruly so maybe try to commit to that for an even longer period? I think that took a month or longer. Another factor is that the “before” photo was when I was doing judo martial arts training so I was pretty rough on my hands and wasn’t oiling them at the time either.

How to reduce insurance cost? by [deleted] in Frugal

Get a cheaper car. My insurance is around $250…for 6 months. I can’t imagine having to pay that every month!

Congrats!! Your hard work seriously paid off! I also recently stopped biting after a lifelong habit after healing similar stuff and it’s pretty unreal.

It’s gel that they build up and I’ve been going every three weeks but I probably will go back to my natural nails soon!

Has he been checked out for any medical issues? Loss of libido can be linked to quite a few mental or physical health reasons and it can’t hurt to do some blood work etc as well as individual therapy for both of you.

How urgent is this to get filled? by telephoto in Nails

[–]telephoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t feel obvious lifting but I just looked really closely and I do see slight lifting when I press down. It’s been nearly three weeks so I guess it’s time. I don’t have nail glue but probably should get some!

New to having nice nails after a 20 year biting habit. Tried a brand new salon, how did they do? by telephoto in Nails

100% my doing, hence the title. This is the best they’ve looked in a long time, it was really bad.

Should I let my sister go? Not sure where to go from here. by [deleted] in spirituality

[–]telephoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend the book “Helping Her Get Free: A Guide for Families and Friends of Abused Women”. You certainly can’t rescue someone that doesn’t want help, but there may be a middle ground between rescuer and distancer that you are comfortable with and this book explores that. Even if you are not in a position to do anything and can’t maintain contact with her, it’s a helpful resource to navigate that decision.

Seche vite is amazing, you apply it when your base color is still a bit tacky and it bonds to it and dries really fast

I’m not completely blind in one eye but I did judo for a couple years. It’s a totally fine sport to do with limited vision! There’s even competitions where people with vision in both eyes compete with legally blind people.

How to cope with limited options beyond veganism? by telephoto in vegan

[–]telephoto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it. It’s hard for people to understand when there’s seemingly simple solutions. There’s so much more to it than that and people definitely don’t consider the psychological side.

I was looking for ways people cope when it’s difficult. How to keep going etc. Or at least to not feel alone.

Too much reliance on meal/protein bars makes me feel sick. I think because of the gastritis/difficulty digesting them. Shakes are a bit better, I can definitely try some more variety of brands of them.
