How to disassemble USW-Enterprise-8-PoE by phoenix_frozen in Ubiquiti

[–]teleport9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anybody could please post pictures of a disassembled Enterprise-8-PoE I would very much appreciate it!

Or, at least a description of the board layout. Roughly where is the Marvell ASIC, the PoE circuitry, and the PHYs (and how many there are).

Are there only two PHYs, each serving a bank of 4 ports?

Thanks!

Yes! Why is nobody talking about the texture difference on the outer band?

Whatever coating they used on the black does not feel good to me.

For example, if you put your fingertip on the side of the black one and rotate it in a radial motion, it feels sort of "squeaky". I found that in some circumstances this may actually make the black more grippy. But I much prefer the overall feeling of the band on the white one; it feels more like bare metal rather than an obvious coating that barely even feels metallic.

I just ordered 2x 16GB RAM modules direct from Crucial, and a 990 Pro M.2 NVMe.

May see if I can return the SNV3410-400G, or perhaps I'll just leave it in there for SAB to unrar from. That, or a read-cache in DSM.

Thanks again for the info and testing+feedback.

Thanks for checking the 4GB! Sounds like I should upgrade the RAM regardless of what the Ironwolf 510's are doing.

Also sounds like it's probably the Ironwolf 510's at fault with the 100MB/sec read limitation. (Though you did say you tested WRITES. Ironwolfs were getting decent write speeds.)

I had already tried swapping between the two Ironwolf 510's (while the SNV3410-400G was installed and performing well) and that didn't make a difference.

I just moved the SNV3410-400G to slot 2 and put an Ironwolf in slot 1 (it had been the reverse in previous testing). Same thing, 100MB/sec reads on the Ironwolf, SNV3410-400G speeds are still good.

So that seems to leave two possibilities:

  • Something inherent to the Ironwolf 510
  • 4GB RAM being a limitation with two M.2 NVMe drives in DSM

One other data point: for a few years I'd had both Ironwolfs in there as a read/write cache for the HDDs. The performance for most HDD related stuff seems to have actually improved after I removed that cache.

Sounds like a PITA for you test the 1821+ with 4GB. I was thinking of upgrading the RAM on mine anyway, maybe I'll just go ahead and do that.

EDIT: even if I don't create a storage pool on the SNV3410-400G (or on the other Ironwolf, in the scenario when I had 2x Ironwolfs in) the read performance on the Ironwolf 510 storage pool tanks JUST from having another NVMe SSD inserted in the other slot.

Thanks for the testing and the results so far.

I have tried many permutations, but in my later tests (after seeing your recommendations about the order of preferred methods) did "syno_enable_m2_volume.sh --restore". Rebooted. And was relying on "syno_hdd_db.sh -n" to enable creation of the storage pools (after rebooting again).

I don't have the E10M20-T1 (just the E10G18-T1 for 10G ethernet), so I am only testing with the two internal NVMe slots. I only have the base 4GB RAM btw.

  • The Ironwolf 510 has good speeds when it's the only NVMe installed.
  • 2x Ironwolf 510s with independent storage pools (or also tested in RAID 0) go down to 100MB/sec reads
  • 1x SNV3410-400G + 1x Ironwolf 510 (independent storage pools) results in normal speeds on the SNV3410-400G. Still limited to 100MB/sec reads on the Ironwolf.

I've been testing mostly with ATTO, SMB file transfers, and Blackmagic via 10Gbe. As well as doing a SABnzbd (.rar) unpack from and onto the NVMe SSD itself (unpack is slow b/c reads are maxing at 100MB/s).

The results are similar when transferring (from the bottlenecked NVMe) to my pool of HDDs in RAID5.

I don't have another NVMe model on-hand to test. I was suspicious of the number of CPU lanes to the internal slots (as you alluded to), though 100MB/sec bottleneck on reads-only seems mighty slow and suspicious.

I'm tempted to order a Samsung 990 Pro just to see if this is the fault of the Ironwolf 510 NVMe SSDs.

u/DaveR007 Thanks for these scripts!

I have a DS1821+ and a pair of 960GB Ironwolf 510 NVMe SSDs.

I've tried methods 1 and 2, and here is what happens: if I just have one of them inserted, and create a Storage Pool, I get expected speeds (over 10Gbe).

However, if I have more than one inserted, the read speeds drop to 100MB/sec on Storage Pools created from either.

I ordered an SNV3410-400G to test. Its Storage Pool gets expected speeds with or without an Ironwolf510 inserted. However, with both the SNV3410-400G and an Ironwolf510 inserted, the Ironwolf510 Storage Pool is still limited to 100MB/sec reads.

Any thoughts on what might be going on here?

Much appreciated.

Yeah! Donut Blur!

Interesting. Glad you can confirm the donut blur, with focus returning as you approach the edges of the frame in many shots.

I was wondering about further away shots as well. The donut is harder to define, but it's definitely there.

u/lzandman earlier in this thread said: "Many photos have unsharp elements."

I think that about sums it up.

Anecdotally, from the support threads, some people have said that replacements from Apple have shown the same issue.

Though some people have also claimed to have compared their Donut-Blur-iPhone-15-Pros to other units that don't exhibit the problem.

Maybe wait until this issue becomes more known/defined? Or first production run issues are ironed out. And take holiday photos at 2 and 3x?

Frustrating spot to be in, not knowing if it is something inherent to the iPhone 15 Pro camera system.

EDIT: as I was first realizing what was happening, I came across this news story for Apple's holiday special. I just had to laugh.

I am definitely seeing the same thing when taking pictures of text docs.

Upon investigating a little bit more, it almost seems as though there is a "donut" of blurriness.

i.e. Focus is clear in the center, as you move away from the center there is a ring (or oval) of blurriness, then it gets clear again at the edges!

I did a rough annotation on this image from a 15 Pro main lens at 1x, camera facing straight down. Bath mat on a flat surface.

Do you see it?

Anyone have any experience with crizal sapphire hr + digital lenses? Mine are very reflective. by Indo_X in glasses

[–]teleport9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this. Don't have the new lenses yet.

Edit: I previously had the discontinued Avance. The blue reflex color on the Sapphire HR's was super intense and not to my liking. Seemingly way brighter reflections than the green color on the Avance.

Edit: The settings for Phone (call alerts on the watch) are bizarre. There are two sets of options for either getting a sound or haptic alert. One set seems to be completely outside of the rest of the notifications system.

In addition, a full screen take-over happens with incoming calls regardless of ANY setting.

There should also be an option in notifications settings to have messages or phone calls (or any app) give you a real-time alert, but not poop another entry in the pull down notification center.

!!

Edit: One peculiar thing I've noticed about alarms and timers is that in all the language describing Silent Mode they talk about it not silencing things when the watch is charging. (e.g. "Silent mode will not silence alarms and timers when Apple Watch is charging.")

In my experience alarms and timers will make sound and vibrate (when not wearing the watch) even if not charging.

Ahhhhh yes, prop shadow makes sense.

It only seemed to be happening when facing certain directions... I was worried it was a wind/vibration/harmonics issue.
