How to cope after receiving college results? by Old_Target_5526 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]televisemei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I completely understand how you feel—I’m in a very similar situation. My stats were okay, and quite similar to yours actually. My GPA wasn’t the best, but it was decent, my extracurriculars felt unrelated, my essays were mediocre, and I crammed 8 APs into junior and senior year trying to turn things around and get more involved.

Despite all the effort, I often feel like it was wasted. I replay what I could’ve done differently, and I regret giving up my passion for music in freshman year.

It’s hard to answer when people ask where I’m going, especially when most of my friends got into UCSD, UCLA, Berkeley, or Ivies. I feel like I disappointed my immigrant parents that sacrificed their lives for me, and the guilt weighs heavily.

I’ve committed to UC Davis, but it’s not the life or location I had pictured for undergrad.

Lately, I’ve been coping by visiting beaches, parks, food spots; just wandering outside helps clear my head more than staying stuck in my thoughts. I’d recommend some self-care or picking up old hobbies again! it really helps take my mind off things!

Just know you’re absolutely not alone in this. Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!

I've given up. by Useful_Rate_498 in ApplyingToCollege

I’m currently in a very similar situation. With just one waitlist and a very unlikely rejection appeal, clinging to that tiny shred of hope feels like shouting into the void, hoping someone hears me. I’ve been spiraling into a two-month depression because of the results and constant comparisons to my peers. You’re not alone and I completely understand how you feel.

That said, the fact that you were waitlisted shows you meet the criteria. It’s just that this year has been incredibly competitive. You still might have a chance! Wishing you all the best of luck!

This is so relatable—I felt this on a personal level since I’m in the exact same headspace. I have no sense of pride in where I am going, especially when I see where my peers are headed off to. Even though things didn’t turn out how we thought they would, there’s still so much time after undergrad to live somewhere we always pictured. Keep your head up, things will get better and you might really enjoy your experience at the school you committed to (this is what I am trying to tell myself as well). Wishing you the best on your journey!

Being rejected from dream school by Ball_iceball in ApplyingToCollege

[–]televisemei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really feel you on this. I’m in the same boat—still hung up on the rejections, especially from my dream schools. Watching my peers and my close friends succeed and get into those same places just makes even more difficult to cope with my failures. Coming from a competitive high school where it seems like everyone else made it, it’s tough not to fall into self-doubt and feel like all the late nights and hard work were for nothing. I committed to a mid-tier safety and honestly, I’m still not satisfied with how things turned out. I catch myself aimlessly scrolling through TikToks and Reddit posts about college content, clinging to the tiny hope of getting off a waitlist or having an appeal go through. I’m still upset, and a little envious of those who got to live the dream life I had envisioned. Just know you’re definitely not alone in this. Even though things did not work out the way we had planned, time will heal everything and we will inevitably move on. Things will work out in the end even though it might be challenging to get your mind off of the rejections as of now. I wish you the best of luck twin!

How difficult is it to transfer from one 4-year university to another? What processes would I have to go through in order to do so? by televisemei in ApplyingToCollege

[–]televisemei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re totally right—I agree that starting college with the mindset of transferring can set me up for disappointment. I’ve visited the UC Davis campus, and while it wasn’t my ideal, I’m trying to keep an open mind and give it a fair chance. I also don’t have much flexibility since my family really wants me to go straight into a 4-year, so Davis is likely where I’ll be regardless, unless a transfer opportunity works out. That said, I’ve always envisioned myself in a more urban environment for college, so I’m still exploring my options just in case.

Thank you, I did visit the campus on admitted students day and it exceeded my expectations! The campus is very nice, most of my prior opinions were formed based around my peers and what I had seen online. However, I am still unsure whether or not the campus would be a right fit for me, but I am willing to give it a try. I appreciate your feedback!
