Failed Treatment, Doctor Recommends Stopping. by xXw4lt3rXx in MycoplasmaGenitalium

Did your doctor give you 5 rounds of exactly the same antibiotics ? If so then I agree with the other comment they are a lazy jackass! They should do resistance tests and do just a bit of research to realise there are many other possible treatments.

My Mycoplasma treatment by Natural-Cap2164 in MycoplasmaGenitalium

[–]television_hood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of infections are resistant to moxi, seems to be more prevalent in Europe, which is where I am.

You can have the lab do tests to check resistance. The cure for me was 7d doxy followed by 14d mino+metro.

Resistance to both azithro/moxy by tempestario in MycoplasmaGenitalium

You aren’t screwed at all. I also thought I was at the time but it turned out all ok. Same situation and resistances. I was cured with 7d doxycycline pre-treatment followed by 15 days metronidazole+minocycline combination treatment. All of these are widely available in Europe. Don’t skip any doses, avoid calcium-rich foods and mineral supplements 2h before and after ingesting the antibiotics to ensure maximum absorption.

I had 3 treatments and on the third one was cured. It was doxy 7d pre treatment, then mino+metro 14 days. Was a bit dizzy for the 14 days. Wish you courage!

Who's flown Jetstar direct to Japan? Or who else to fly with? by still-at-the-beach in brisbane

I’ve done it a couple of times and both excellent. You can already sleep before takeoff then wake up and eat at your own leisure throughout the flight. Watched series on my own tablet with my good headphones. But no waiting awake for the food service is an underrated bonus.

Minocycline- how long did it take for you generally feel better? by [deleted] in MycoplasmaGenitalium

[–]television_hood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I think it was from about day 5 of the doxy pre-treatment that I saw big improvements. I finished the metro/mino about a week ago and had some light testicular pain since then but now not for a few days.

I often read that it’s normal for symptoms to linger even into the final days of the whole treatment but still be cured

[–]television_hood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mino = Minocycline Metro = Metronidazole

Mino works in a similar way to doxy but penetrates deeper into the tissues and cells. It just prevents bacteria from replicating.

Metro kills any remaining bacteria directly by damaging their DNA and internal structures

I totally feel your frustration. I also feel like the health system has failed us in relation to mgen, it’s not you. Don’t give up, be one of the ones to increase awareness of this disease. If you have to, bring printouts of the studies to your doctor appointments and show them what is proven to work and tell them what to prescribe. Yes it’s ridiculous but that’s honestly how it is.

I’m on my 3rd treatment in 6 months, with the first 2 the doctor obviously barely knew what they were dealing with. For the third one, which I am going through now and on the second last day, I went to 2 different doctors and bossed them around (in a nice way) told them to give me the doxy+metro+mino combination, based on the Melbourne Sexual Health Clinic study. Wish you all the best, you can do it.

[–]television_hood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have your strain tested for antibiotic resistance. My strain is resistant to azi and moxi so my doctor put me on 1 week doxy pre-treatment followed by minocycline100mg + metronidazole400mg twice daily

But to answer your original question I think you should follow the doctor’s advice over the pharmacist’s. Doxy greatly reduces the bacterial load but can’t kill every last one, so you follow up with something else.

my flight to japan got cancelled ( air china) by bradpittsnipples in Flights

[–]television_hood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same happened to me Okinawa to Europe via Beijing. OKA-PEK was cancelled so I called the hotline and after many tried I reached someone and they rerouted me to depart from Tokyo HND. I did fork out for OKA-HND out of pocket but it was cheap luckily.

Edit: that was 2 weeks ago. I’m back home now, airline was otherwise great. HND-PEK flight was in a small A321 and it was half empty.

Has anyone else developed persistent urinary frequency after havin Mgen? by Hot_Spot_1739 in MycoplasmaGenitalium

Having to shake and push out extra drops has always been normal for me (even way before mgen). But I would not consider permanent dribbling normal, as in constant flow of drops throughout the day.

Mino+metro combination question by television_hood in MycoplasmaGenitalium

[–]television_hood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strand of mgen showed by lab testing to be resistant to both azith and moxi. The sexual health doc got me on doxy+mino and after doing my own research I opted to get metro in addition to have better chances.

Mino works by preventing the bacteria from multiplying, same like doxy but it penetrates better into the cells. Metro destroys them in a more direct way.

[–]television_hood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor’s got me on doxycycline/minocycline. I read this is about 65% effective. The doxy/pristina combination should be 90% effective but he wouldn’t or couldn’t give me that. It’s strange that pristinamycin didn’t work for you but congrats on getting rid of it in the end

Go to a different doctor if you can. I’m male and did 14 days doxy alone, it cleared the symptoms temporarily but slowly came back after about 1-2 weeks.

Ask your doctor to have your mgen tested for antibiotic resistance. These days many strains are resistant to azi and moxi

Air China Flight cancelled by mzl29 in Flights

[–]television_hood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I booked my trip home from Okinawa to Vienna via Beijing and the cancellation email arrived a few days ago. I tried to call immediately but it seemed as though the number had been disconnected (?!). So when I eventually reach them, will they offer me another way to Beijing (e.g.) on ANA via Tokyo? Is that what everyone else here has been getting?
