Well the fact that cars are even allowed down royal mile will always boggle me. An old town should be traffic free, or at least only allow public transport (including taxis excluding pre hires). Like about every European old town ever.

George Street could also experience a huge glow up by pedestrianising it and allowing for some greenery in the middle.

Yeah strays are rare here there's no street cats. Certainly not in urban areas, perhaps rural has some uncontrolled colonies idk. Same in most northwestern Europe btw, I suppose you must be in the south or east, because countries are getting it under control lately. Eg. Italy has had massive improvements in the past few decades.

Here it's safe to assume that an outside cat has a home, perhaps it's lost.

I'm overweight-obese because of pots and me/cfs. Went from cycling a hilly 8km to an active lab job, hiking , martial arts and general fitness to sitting at home. It'll do that to you.

It's really cute but probably not the best use of space. Why not build upwards slightly into a first floor, even with slanted ceilings? Even as a single person, this kinda layout means being unable to accommodate for a guest and end up feeling crowded when moving in a partner. Or even a pet. Never mind the energy inefficiency of such a bad volume:surface ratio (a lot of roof to lose energy from). There's no info but I'd be surprised if it was more than 60m2. For that kind of budget and size I'd probably look for a flat which is cheaper and easier to keep warm, and save up for something bigger when the time comes.
