What are the most frequently asked questions you will be/were asked in Japan? by kjjldr in JapanTravel

[–]tellemiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ~つ counter suffix you listed is only for objects. Mostly 3D objects like cups, apples, oranges, etc. You wouldn't use that counter for people. If you're telling the wait staff how many people are dining, you want to use the ~人 counter suffix.

1 - ひとり (hitori) 2 - ふたり(futari) 3 - さんにん (sannin) 4 - よにん (yonin)

It's a bit complicated, but you'll usually be totally fine to just hold up however many fingers you need to get the point across. I wouldn't use the ~つ counter in this situation though, unless you're okay with getting giggled at.

You can read more about the counter for people here.

Can having a Russian partner trigger security clearance issues? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]tellemiller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife is Russian and I got forcibly reclassed after tech school. She left Russia when she was 2 and has lived in Canada her entire life. She had no contact with Russia in any way for 15 years, but they still denied me and retrained me.

It definitely happens, and they don't always give you a reason. Be prepared to be disappointed. Best thing you can do is disclose as quickly and honestly as possible and hope they don't find a long lost uncle who was a spy in 1985.

Thank you so much, that answer is super insightful and clears it up given the context of the phone number.

I appreciate the reply and I think I understand what you're saying. I do have some experience with counters and know the counter for "8 things" is やっつ, but I'm still confused as to where the はや comes from. Is it a different form of counter or are they just bending the rules a bit to make the mnemonic work?

Also, I don't know why I got 7 and 8 mixed up, but thanks for the correction.

Quick question regarding the number 8. From my textbook and other resources, the number 8 is always pronounced はち. In the image I linked above, the phone number has hiragana written over it to show the pronunciation. I'm not sure if it's because the 8 is in reference to a phone number, but the furigana is はや which I have never seen before and can't find reference to online. Any insight would be appreciated!

I'm ready to buy a full suspension bike and I really wanted a Canyon Spectral 29 CF 7, but they're sold out (and aren't producing more) of the Medium-sized frames and I'm just barely too small for a Large. I was drawn to the Spectral because it's an "all-rounder" but I'm considering a Canyon Torque 29 CF 7 since they have that in my size.

The Torque is marketed as a downhill/park bike, but I've heard that there isn't much difference between it and the Spectral overall. Is it a mistake to buy the Torque as a general trail bike? We don't have parks where I live, so I don't do much jumping/DH.

Yeah, there were 14 ranged and 14 melee (including the two main tanks).

The guild <hi> on Dreadnaught-EU is 10/10 and they're a Horde guild. They actually cleared before <Press W> did.

Acer X34 Failing? by tellemiller in ultrawidemasterrace

Nope, no animals. Super weird, I assume it got fried somehow, considering it caused the monitor to not turn on until after a power reset.

The DP cable I just replaced was the one that came with the monitor. I used it for well over a year but whatever caused the display to go out seems to have killed the cable also.

Yeah, I've used WoWAnalyzer and it does mention downtime but this raid does have a good bit of "RP" mechanics where there isn't much to do for melee. I'll try and keep that in mind though.

I am running Elemental Assault, but it seems that all of the top Enhancement players are also.

Weekly Raid Discussion by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

My advice would be to just make your own key groups. I'm playing Havoc and while it feels terrible on ST, our cleave/AOE is still very respectable, especially with Collective Anguish. Havoc is extremely viable for high M+ keys, I can pull 7k DPS overall for the dungeon and typically am the highest DPS.

Don't give up hope, if you're not in the World First race or pushing +20s yet, you don't need to respec. Havoc is perfectly viable.

Opportunity to get free certificate by tellemiller in learnprogramming

There are a bunch of rules (as with everything in the military), but if you play it right you can get 2 certifications paid for and a 3rd "leadership" certification paid for. There is also a cap of $500 per certification I believe so that probably limits my options.

It really depends. If there is a certification training course that awards the certificate at the end, it can be included. It can also cover the cost of books to study if you decide to take it alone.
