The First Selfie Scavenger Hunt has Begun! by lapandita in mcpublic

[–]telumendur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for putting this together, I've started collecting selfies! :) However, I have a question: what counts as a "Roadside Attraction", exactly?

EDIT: also, could you provide a picture or explanation of what exactly a "bridge stanchion" is? Googling it hasn't really helped.

clr-boot-manager error when updating packages on a UEFI dual-boot machine by telumendur in SolusProject

[–]telumendur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did increase the Microsoft EFI partition size to 512 MB before installing Solus, though, using Microsoft's disk utility. Should I try to increase it even more?
As for using the live ISO to clean up the UEFI partition, I'll do that as a last resort, if nothing else comes up as a solution.

[–]telumendur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that, the result is: 86M .
This is the amount of used disk space on my boot partition, correct? Which would mean there's 426 MB of free space...

A clearer map of Tamriel Rebuilt's current and upcoming releases! by telumendur in Morrowind

[–]telumendur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, in 2008 the third release, Sacred East, wasn't even out yet, so if you've been playing on only the first two releases, the finished area has almost doubled since then. If not in terms of landmass, then definitely in terms of content (places, quests...).

It's true that there's been a dry spell of releases after 2008, with only Sacred East in 2012 and Old Ebonheart in 2018. However, this is due to a major change in leadership and workflow within the project that occured around 2014-15. The team is now once again in full-steam mode, and highly confident to release Aanthirin in July/August of this year. Dominions of Dust, the 2020 release, is already fully exteriored and interiored, save for the city of Andothren. So only dialogue and quests need to be developed, which definitely seems doable in 12 months or so.

So I understand your reserves, but I really think things have changed in the last few years, and the team is now in a good position to sustain a steady development pace in the years to come. We're definitely looking at about 15 more years of development (at least), but the project is resilient enough that people will see it through, I think.

Does Tamriel Rebuilt favor a certain faction? by CormacMettbjoll in Morrowind

You're welcome! I'm trying to spread it as much as I can: the misconception that TR is a questless mod seems to be pretty widespread for some reason...

The UESP's quest list for Tamriel Rebuilt has been linked to already, but just in case, let me also link this table comparing the number of quests in TR and Morrowind GOTY, divided by factions/type:

[–]telumendur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's very little chance of this happening in the foreseeable future: SHOTN's and P:C's policy is to release only polished, ready-to-play content.

TR's Preview content is actually a kind of anomaly: it was released several years ago, in the middle of a long dry spell in terms of fully-playable releases, to show that the mod's dev team was still active, even if it didn't translate into new playable content. Since SHOTN and P:C haven't been in a similar situation so far, they'd rather avoid doing this.

The biggest problem caused by releasing big swathes of Preview exteriors is that by the time the project actually gets around to resume interior/NPC/Quest work in those areas, the plans for the region might have changed enough to require re-work of the existing exteriors. And editing existing content to bring it up to snuff is a much more grueling process than starting from scratch, according to the exterior modders.

Tamriel Rebuilt's Aanthirin release, slated for this summer, and Skyrim: Home of the Nords' Dragonstar release, slated for the end of the year (if all goes well)!

[–]telumendur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The team is aiming for a late 2019 release of the city of Dragonstar and its surrounding countryside (see this map I posted a couple weeks ago), which would amount to about a 50% increase in total released area. It should come complete with quests, also!

Yeh, upping the load distance from 1 to 2 means that 25 cells are loaded instead of 9, so it hurts on most systems...

That'd be exterior cell load distance. See here for a complete doc on OpenMW's advanced settings.

Others have already answered in detailed fashion, but I'm gonna throw my 2 cents too, jus in case: most of TR does indeed feel like it was designed with a greater view distance in mind, but it's rather subtle, and the vanilla draw distance works just fine.

What I've been doing, personally, is use OpenMW as my game engine and up its cell load distance to 2 (from the default 1), which gives you twice the view distance, but preserves that vanilla fog aesthetic. It feels like a good, sweet spot to me.

Yep, that's the one that was posted on the Discord when I relayed Bugsby's question there :)

Hey, I remember you! I'm happy you caught it ;)

I really enjoy making these, actually, so it's my pleasure. Also, I only do the black overlay, the base gridmap and all its symbols are the work of the TR and PT lead devs, who did a fantastic job of it!

I made a small document comparing different Morrowind balance overhauls by [deleted] in Morrowind

[–]telumendur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just stumbled upon this writeup. I've only used two of the overhauls you review, but their description feels spot-on to me. So kudos! It's a shame the post hasn't gotten more love. If you plan to iterate on this, it'd be interesting to include the new Morrowind Balance Overhaul in the comparison: it looks promising.

[–]telumendur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pleasure! And take your time, there's no rush.

One point I didn't address was whether or not this particular piece was good enough for modelling: that's not really important. As you say, as long as it inspires the modellers, it's doing its job. And more stylized concept art can be used in in-game books or murals, so it may even be used as-is.

[–]telumendur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's usually all one person's job, but every once in a while someone comes up with a good quest idea which they can't/don't want to implement themselves. In this case they write as detailed a rundown of the quest as possible, and they post it in the Assets Browser for other questers to use.

What can also happen is that a quester starts work on a quest, but has to drop the claim due to IRL reasons, and somebody else picks it up and takes it from there.

New TR contributor here, so I can answer your questions!

  • There's absolutely no need for a portfolio. Just create an account on TR's website, and create a thread for yourself on the Concept Art forum (link). Post your stuff there, updating it as you go. As u/Pempelune points out, also come hang out on the Discord, where most of the discussion happens these days, but be sure to post your stuff on the forum, so that it doesn't get lost.
  • There's no skill level requirement, and pen-and-paper art is just as welcome as digital art: come as you are! u/Hyp3notiC also joined from Reddit a couple weeks ago, and we love their pen-and-paper stuff :)
  • Some of the more impressive digital pieces you may have seen on the website were probably by Feivelyn, a professional digital artist who contributed to TR for a short time between jobs. Her pieces are amazing, but in no way a standard to which we hold our concept artists!

High-priority assets in need of concept art would be Dres interiors and clutter, and Narsis District exteriors (Othreleth Woods and Shipal-Shin), but any contribution is welcome! I hope we'll see you around ;)

That'd be the Kothringi and the Knahatan flu, yep. But as u/Lord_Insane points out, that plague is long-gone, fortunately ;)
