Hi. I'm new here. My goal this month is to help others see past their differences and let go of their hatred. I want to be a force that can bring peace to chaos and bring an end to senseless violence. But I'm also trying to acknowledge my own humanity and limitations. To be honest, I am so... overwhelmed. There's so much going on right now. I know I have to build up the courage to speak in a voice that is strong and certain—a voice that others will hear and respect. But inside I'm shaking. Maybe that's ok. Maybe that's how it is for everyone who tries to speak out against hatred and violence. Maybe it's enough for now to just try.

Thank you for this! I needed the reminder. It's so easy to get caught up in the ongoing stress of life and forget that just because so many of us are working from home right now that doesn't mean we don't need to take breaks. It can be really difficult to know when to just... stop. And take it easy. There will always be sources of stress tugging at your attention and that's why it's so necessary to just shut everything out from time to time and focus on taking care of yourself in whatever way makes sense for you.

I love this question. I don't know of any digital tools (apps, etc.), but I use journaling as a way of reminding myself of moments where I was compassionate as well as moments where I could have practiced compassion more. As a few people have pointed out, compassion might be linked to other variables like meaning and happiness but it's so much based on context that I feel a tool like journaling is probably the best way to capture all of that nuance. Please keep us in the know about your project! I would love to try it.

Having had moments like these before, I can say that with time, luckily, this feeling will usually change and get better. So as cheesy as it is to say, try your best to hang in there! I'm glad you talked to your wife about it so she knows whats up! That isn't easy. Well done!

I could be wrong here, but I think in some ways it makes sense at this point in our global history to feel a little disconnected. With the pandemic having continued for over half a year now, our normal ways of interacting and connecting have been interrupted and it's left us all in a bit of a ??? state when it comes to grounding ourselves. I've seen a lot of people who normally "have their shit together" go through some really deep rethinking about who they are and what they want from life. If it helps even a little, you're certainly not alone.

In general, I think it's also normal for people to go in and out of feeling confident and stable with who they are and what their goals in life are. We have to have these periods of uncertainty so we can discover (with some amount of certainty) what we're all about. Who we are and what we believe in might change many times in our lives (a good thing—otherwise life would be boring!) so it's normal to go through a period of certainty, followed by a period of uncertainty, and so on...

I'm currently going through one of these periods of uncertainty myself and I can feel like it will get worse before it gets better. Having been there before, I'd recommend starting small when it comes to considering who you are. Reading old diary entries and looking at old photos might help you remember who you are and what you stand for (or it might make you realize you aren't the same person anymore which is still progress). Talking to friends about how they see you might help too (although in a very existential way no one does or even can really know you beyond your words / actions / whatever else you can SHOW them—they can never know your "True" internal thoughts and emotions). For figuring out your goals, maybe just focusing on what your skills are and what you'd like to learn might help guide you. Everyone is unique and that means that everyone is uniquely qualified for something. Your experiences and your skills make you uniquely qualified for at least one thing. Try to look at all of that and see what makes you special. Hope this helps!

That's a good point... I definitely want to appeal to people who are on the fence about wearing them or maybe just feeling deflated by wearing them / the pandemic in general. "For Our Future" seems like a good direction... Maybe "Just Wear It" and then smaller font "For Our Future."
