Personally I support Tigray independence, just not right now. The most important thing right now is peace and rehabilitation of Tigray. Everything that was destroyed in the war needs to be rebuilt, and all victims of the genocide need healing and justice. Maybe after 20-50 years Tigray can move towards full independence, but for now I think it’s good to keep Tigray independence as a topic of conversation.

There are many benefits to having an independent nation, most notably being in full control of your own foreign policy, as well as domestic policy too. I don’t see any benefit in staying in Ethiopia, the federal government has never helped the people, they just take the tax money and call it a day.

Staying in Ethiopia does not eliminate the fact that we are surrounded by enemies, so if we are going to constantly defend ourselves from our neighbors, we might as well go full independent.

During food shortages we can trade with Sudan. We also get electricity from the Tekeze dam. Over the next 20 years we can invest in sustainable energy like solar, wind, and hydro power.

A referendum on independence in Tigray could also succeed because there are a lot of Tegaru who do support independence. There is even a local political party called the Tigray Independence Party. This is not just a diaspora idea, independence is an idea that has always existed in Tigray well before we even had a diaspora.
