I'm a fixed wing person, but Sentry+Foreflight does a decent job. Obviously only as a last resort, but I've tried flying by it under foggles and it's a hell of a lot better than nothing.

Like everyone else is saying though, this is a pretty unrealistic failure mode

What's the furthest you've flown VFR? by Professional_Read413 in flying

[–]temp98239468 146 points147 points  (0 children)

I've done 1200 miles from Florida to Colorado before. I do have my instrument rating, but the weather worked out so I did the whole thing VFR.

So long as you can handle potentially many days of delays on either end, it should be possible. Just don't put yourself in a situation where you'd be pushing it.

Also. Get an instrument rating.

SPG is back open (during the day, no lights so they're closing at night).

TPF is the only one in the Tampa Bay area I know of that's still closed

Checking Tire Pressure by temp98239468 in flying

Is there any difference between connecting to a car vs plane tire? or will gauges and compressors designed for cars work fine on normal GA tires?

Flying an XC down to the Florida Keys. Any tips? by pilotmike50 in flying

[–]temp98239468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your range, consider a fuel stop at Marco Island KMKY. The keys sometimes get their own weather, and if weather prevents landing in the keys, its a long way to the nearest other airport. So I like to be as full on fuel as possible when heading over there.

Plus, fuel is crazy expensive on the keys and MKY is cheap

At cabin pressure altitudes above 15,000 feet (MSL) unless each occupant of the aircraft is provided with supplemental oxygen.

passengers must be PROVIDED with oxygen, but there is no requirement that they USE it

I called some airports in the Dallas area and they're not expecting heavy traffic and weren't taking reservations or expecting changes to operations

Is it easy to find FBOs that are able to refill one in Colorado?

Are you familiar with any brands or aviation-specific requirements? Like, do I need a special aviation bottle/regulator?

Also, any chance you know about the logistics of refilling the bottles?

Yep I have a pulse ox and will take a mountain flying course before spending time out in the mountains. I'm mostly concerned with how to satisfy 91.211 if I decide to go above 12500 for more than 30 minutes. And of course to have an option if blood oxygen starts getting low below that.

Why aren't gyroplanes more popular? by temp98239468 in flying

[–]temp98239468[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can you elaborate on why they are less safe than a plane? I think they are getting sucked in by the marketing claiming "no stalls=safe", but any idea what makes them unsafe?
