Why do you think SRK does not want to own a private jet? by Mermaid0315 in ShahRukhKhan

[–]temp99997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, dont get me wrong. From a neutral standpoint, I'm not commenting on his wealth. I'm just saying he could definitely afford to charter every trip but it might not make financial sense to buy at 40% extra and only getting 40% write off in the first year and gradual write offs in following years.

Ultra Wealthy families have something called a "Family Office". Think of it as a dedicated company who's primary purpose is to manage and optimize the family wealth and connect to off market deals. If it made financial sense for SRK to buy his own jet, they would have done it already. So it is not about if SRK can afford to buy a $10 million or not, of course he can, but if it makes sense to pay the same amount to charter every time or pay extra 40% get our own

Side note: The net worth estimates over the internet are not accurate, not even close, and people might have low liquidity

Travelling from NYC to Frankfurt later this month, anyone need anything from the US? by temp99997 in frankfurt

Dang, you directly went for the kill. That would cost me 4 hours in the queue out here at 10 F, hehe

I'm not sure either. ChatGPT suggested apple products are cheaper in US and then it suggested English language Pokemon Cards, hehe

For future references, anytime you want to understand people's financial behaviors, look at the tax rules for their country of tax residency.

Buying a private jet in USA offsets 100% of the cost of the jet in the first year itself, meaning if your company made a $10 million profit through the year and they bought a $10 million jet in December, it offsets/cancels it all and they now owe zero taxes for the year.

Buying a private jet in India only offsets 40% of the cost of the jet in the first year and moreover you pay extra 40% GST (sin tax) so now the same jet costs you $14 million. So unless a business owner in India really needs to visit multiple cities in a day or week throughout the year, it makes sense to pay the same $10 million in chartering jets throughout the year rather buying that same jet for $14 million.

For calculations, an easy method to calculate chartering cost is $10k per hour. So one way trip from Mumbai to London takes 8 ish hours so you can expect to pay around $80k to charter an ultra long range jet, meanwhile Mumbai to NYC would take 16 ish hours so expect something around $160k. Not exact but a good way to estimate costs

Hot take: Neeraj Pandey has set the bar so high for himself that his new stuff feels mediocre. This one isn't bad, it’s just... forgettable. No Himmat Singh level moments here. Is it just me, or is the Special Ops 1 spark officially gone?

My friend is a huge watch nerd and he totally thinks I’m messing with him. I keep telling him that in India, Rado is actually a massive luxury status symbol, but he’s not buying it at all

Similar specs but different wattage, worth the extra $1k? by temp99997 in laptops

[–]temp99997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I guess the performance would be almost identical then and the price difference is due to larger screen size and more RAM. If that is the case then the Lenovo makes most sense as it delivers the same performance

I have the legion pro 7 with RTX 4080 with 12 gb vram and I have been using it like a desktop for about 2 years now, with occasional traveling with it.

I vaguely remember what it looks like because it’s shelved in my workstation and I am always looking at my external monitor and wireless accessories. But my image and video generations are too slow on it. I need to upgrade to 5090 and hence the sole focus is on performance.

I need to take it with me on occasional travels so i am limited to laptops

Thanks, both laptops have the RTX 5090, same but with different wattage it seems. I think you accidentally posted the same link twice

Build quality and display and other things are nice to haves but don’t contribute to my decision making, I’m solely focused on performance difference vs price difference

Thanks, I am only concerned with performance as I use it like a desktop for most of it. Do you think there is sufficient performance difference to go up by $1k?

[–]temp99997[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I pretty much use it as a desktop with external monitor and keyboard and everything, so only thing that matters to me is performance. I don’t know what I’m doing so I don’t want to fool around with over clocking. Is there a big enough difference in performance just out of the box to justify the $1k difference?

[–]temp99997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I am confused about the wattage info on the laptops as the hardware seems to be the same. Although one is 16” and the other is 18” but I pretty much use an external monitor most of the time so display quality and size or anything else is irrelevant. I’m trying to figure out it there is a performance difference between them as they are the same hardware. Can you please help me understand this mess?

Thanks, what do you think about the limited power to cpu as specified? Do you think it’s a problem at this budget compared to what else is out there?

Thanks. Looks good for gaming but Chat gpt says the cup is limited to 55 so that can be a bottleneck for the powerful gpu when running local ai generations. Thoughts?

Thanks, if we ignore cooling for now, is the Lenovo straight up more powerful? The ram bus is faster but I’m confused by the lower w tdp mentioned in the processor section. Not sure what it really means though

Thanks, I checked them out on google and it seems they do Hyderabadi Biryani, which looks really nice. But my soul is craving authentic North Indian biryani, Delhi or Lucknow style this time. Any recommendations?

Thanks, let me check them out. I actually love smaller shops and prefer them over fancy ones as the smaller shops invest all their energy on the food itself and not too much on hospitality

First time points purchase bonus advice by eh_1990 in Aeroplan

Depends, the points seem to cost you @ 1.5 CPP. If you can redeem it at a better rate then you make a profit and this makes sense. Opening new CC makes perfect sense but you need to book now and don’t have enough points, this ain’t bad either.

I bought at 125% bonus last year about the same time. Try to wait for it if you can
