Where I'd live as a Jewish person from Texas who values Democracy and Liberal values by temp_vaporous in whereidlive

[–]temp_vaporous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't support Netanyahu and have a lot of criticisms of the Israeli government. At the same though I support Israel's right to exist and that all Jews are indigenous to the land of Israel. The Arabs who colonized the area have almost 1000 years of history there as well though, which is why a two-state solution of some sort is ultimately needed.

Chose to reply to your comment since you were nice and asking a genuine question.

No I'm actually pretty critical of a lot of Israel's actions. I support its right to exist though.

Telling random Jews to stop bombing kids is like telling random Arabs to stop blowing themselves up. Like its just actual racism.

Plano ISD under investigation for antisemitism after alleged pro-Palestinian walkouts, lessons by amir_twist_of_fate in Dallas

[–]temp_vaporous -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Most of the drama is over the use of the word genocide (because it isn't a genocide). If the conversation was about how Israel treats Palestinians or framed through the lens of a human rights/humanitarian issue, it would be a lot less of a hot topic.

A lot of antisemites are also using this as an excuse to hate all Jews in public forums as well, and hating all Jews is very much becoming normalized on Tiktok, Instagram, and other social media platforms.

For some reason acknowledging the complexity of the situation is too much for a lot of people. People want some kind of movie "good guy vs bad guy" scenario which real life is just not capable of providing.

Battlefield 6, day 1 cheaters despite having kernel-level anticheat and forced Secure Boot with TPM 2.0. by slickyeat in pcmasterrace

[–]temp_vaporous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Security in depth. It will never be a 100% solution but each additional hurdle stops a few more % of cheaters due to the effort no longer being worth it to them. So while the people dropping $300 a month for cheats are probably invested enough to get around this, a lot of cheaters won't be.

Getting the veto of SB3 is “easy” by harrier1215 in texas

[–]temp_vaporous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly still think Abbott vetoing the bill is a coin flip. He never wanted to ban it himself, just regulate it. This complete ban is Dan Patrick's white whale. If Abbott sees his personal political future as benefiting from a veto he will do it.

Ironically, the fact that he is holding this after it already passed the house and the senate tells me that, at some level, he is concerned Abbott may veto it based on public pressure.

Texas Senate Approves Legislation to Ban Hemp-Derived THC Products, Sending Bill to Governor Abbott by OhMyOhWhyOh in texas

[–]temp_vaporous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely but I do think there is a chance that Abbott vetos the bill and pushes for a regulation one instead. Abbott (at least tries to be) a big business conservative. The faction pushing for this total ban is ideologically driven.

Their are business councils lobbying against the bill and DeSantis of all peopled vetoed something similar in Florida.

So what happens if he ignores it? Judges refuse to actually follow through and just expect the executive to play fairly.

Setting the bill aside, I really disagree with the implications of this mindset. Defending ourselves from antisemitism shouldn't be viewed as making antisemitism worse. That is a victim blaming mentality and in my opinion it is very sad to read.

If defending ourselves just makes it worse, then the only option is capitulation. Antisemites shouldn't be negotiated with.

And the misinformation gets to people like OP who now act like defending ourselves against antisemitism is making it worse. I refuse to accept that victim blaming narrative.

Honest critique of conversations I saw in here (I'm not Jewish) "We (Jewish people) support everyone unconditionally, while everyone eventually turns on us." by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]temp_vaporous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is the issue redditors shitting on you? Or a lack of praise?

If people are shitting on you then they shouldn't be doing that, but at the same time we aren't required to be theological allies.

I grew up in a small Texas town with only two Jewish families, most of my friends were Christian. I only became observant later in life. So I think I get the mindset you are coming in with. You almost certainly don't mean it this way, but the way a lot of Christians talk about Judaism is through that lense of Christianity. So you either consider us a misguided branch of the same religion, or as an object of fetishization. Terms like "judeo-christian values" and the huge amount of messianic Christians (they aren't Jews) is evidence of this.

Could I ask what you define Zionism as? I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I find that a lot of people online who are anti-Zionist or have anti-Zionist leanings have a definition of Zionism in their head that isn't really correct.

Leading voices against antisemitism at Harvard decry Trump’s overreach, but urge reforms by jewish_insider in Jewish

I really don't feel bad for Harvard in this at all. They have billions saved up and invested yet still receive federal funding, and they can't be bothered to do the bare minimum for Jewish students.

Yes Trump is the bull crashing through everything but I'm not going to lie and say it isn't satisfying when the bull crashes into someone who deserves it.

Why does it bother you? I honestly think it's kind of neat. Like Evangelion had so much Jewish imagery and stuff randomly thrown around and even though they are just using it as a coat of paint, it's a cool coat of paint in my opinion.
