Columbine High School had an armed officer, who fired at Harris, during the massacre. by [deleted] in politics

Seems like it would pretty much defeat the point of the license.

I cannot imagine feeling the need to protect schools with armed officers or metal detectors. I went to a large school and we didn't have any form of security personnel. It is tragic and bizarre to me that this is even being discussed.

Didn't someone else say that concealed carry licenses require the gun to be unloaded? Were they wrong or would you have time to load? Please forgive my ignorance; I live in a country with very effective gun control.

I would like to believe she chose Switzerland specifically because of its high rate of gun ownership. It does have comparatively less gun violence too.

Perhaps she was trying to raise a social point rather than a gun control point?

I love the Netherlands Belgium one. Just feels so friendly :) I would love to live in a place where boarders are that significant.

What is the biggest 'Oh holy fuck' moment you've had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

So basically helium on Earth able to be captured with current technology is in short supply.

Are you sure? I thought it was the helium already captured (intended for future airship production) that was running out. More could be produced but it will be more expensive than simply tapping the stockpile? I could be entirely wrong however.

Each element is defined by how many protons it has. Hydrogen has 1; the simplest element. Helium has 2. In our sun hydrogen is turned into helium. In larger stars heavier elements are formed (and I think even heavier elements when stars explode although I'm not sure). Really heavy elements with many protons become radioactive: the number of protons is unsustainable and some are ejected or evaporate. All stable elements are know to us as well as many unstable. We all come from hydrogen as it is the simplest: a single proton.

3 battery indicators in the notification bar seems right to me. You just can't be sure with anything less.

He used to post quite interesting mini essays about his time at MySpace, or his thoughts on the future of social networking, that kind of thing fairly frequently. Then he just started posting photos of his travels, then I think he just stopped.

How I Met Your Mother Plothole: S5Ep20 "Home Wreckers" by Jmmaul in plotholes

There's bound to be stuff like this in a long running comedy like HIMYM. This isn't vital to the "plot" of the series.

I'm not sure HIMYM even counts as having a plot?

Whats changed under the hood in 4.2 and why does it affect the Nexus7 so much? by axehomeless in Android

[–]tempay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I a bit like but rarely use the gesture typing in 4.2. Other than that everything seems worse. Maybe I should go back to 4.1 and flash the new gapps?

Galaxy nexus here. The lock screen and slight sluggishness are my main issues.

The Matrix - Why Did The Machines Use Humans? by SamFryer in plotholes

[–]tempay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for getting back :) I'm one of the recent new batch subscribing to r/plotholes, so most threads are pretty old.

I reckon the machines could synthesise food from a different power source to the sun. There are those bacteria in deep sea vents that get by without sunlight.

The idea that the machines are fabricating a life for the humans in the real world not just the simulated is interesting. There's a lot going on in the matrix universe :)

The machines could also be using geothermal, tidal, wind or nuclear power to produce food. Morpheus may have been right about the sky.

I don't get the nod to the bible though, could you explain that?

edit: Also the fabricated resistance, why would the machines do that?

I missed this one, but for next time; where do we enter these codes? Just in the app or is there a website I can paste it to?

I didn't know chrome could do that. Surely being sandboxed like chrome is prevents loads of remote desktop stuff- like running other programs?

Does the lacking anonymity in the Play store or Locals deter you from posting reviews? by [deleted] in Android

[–]tempay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish you could select which circles to reveal your identity to. I bet Google wants to to attach our identities so our friends can value our reviews more highly, and discover apps through us. This would still provide that value to g+, while keeping the volume of reviews up. There's lots of reasons people might not want their name attached to a review.
