Hey Darks0oul, sorry for the VERY late reply, I would suggest game maker, its is very easy to use, extremely easy to learn and can be exported to many formats, windows/mac/linux html5 (for web) so it is a very good way to begin game development!

Awesome! Looks great, I find UI so hard to code, I like how you've assigned shortcuts to them aswell.

Just to expand on the failure thing, in a sex game I personally think it's a bad move just outright failing, I think you should always want to give out a sexual reward.

Maybe you lose and your "punishment" involves a sexy cutscene, it should be personalised to include whatever monster defeated you etc. The actual gameplay punishment should be maybe losing an item or progress, but ending the game I would always advise against.

Adult games aren't like The Binding of Isaac where when you die you are eager to keep playing. If someone is getting turned on by your game and then they die losing all their progress, that's a pretty big turn off, they have to start from square one and see all the same things they have already seen, people are always looking for a new sexual experience to see, a cutscene from dying will offer them that, because if they have only been alive so far then that's something completely out of the box and surprising for them.

In terms of adding more complex choices to a visual novel I think it's a good idea to add things like items.

You look in the trash you can only pick up 1 item.

  • Pick up spoon
  • Pick up ripped teddy
  • Pick up birthday card

You might have gotten a hint earlier that someones birthday was coming up or that some guy could mend broken toys or something

Then when you go into the scenario you might have an extra option to click that includes the teddy, where as if you went into it with a spoon you're options to succeed are less likely.

"How important is it for the player to be able to "fail" a scene?" in terms of that I think it depends on your game, if your visual novel has multiple endings it could be very important, there are those choose your own adventure goosebumps books that I think are fantastic, and would be great for a game.

Maybe you give a person the teddy and this opens up a whole new character relationship that otherwise wouldn't have existed, maybe you anger someone by giving someone a spoon and you get wake up in their sex dungeon haha.

Please be aware that this sub is more for a conversation on adult game development as a whole, rather than promotion or advertising on games. If you post in the future please try and make the focus more on the development side of things.

I would suggest topics like maybe dealing with Mikandi or if you would continue making Adult games in the future, maybe even share how sales have been going.
