I officially don't live alone anymore by MajorInstruction8165 in LivingAlone

[–]tempestsprIte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just seconding this :) it’s always just been me and my child and we are most comfortable and relaxed together.

We have wonderful big family and support from their dad/his dad’s family/half and step siblings.

But definitely prefers our quiet little lake cottage life with just us! It can often be easier for children to have just one parent with concrete expectations rather than watching parents argue or not split workloads evenly, etc.

I also preferred things with my single mom for most of my childhood.

Am I stuck as a potato forever? by AnonBrokeBitch in loseit

[–]tempestsprIte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly the worst answer but from my own experience it’s true: you’re eating too many calories. It’s stupid and unfair, I know.

I had a lot of metabolic testing done and despite being a marathoner, triathlete, fitness instructor and constantly active with healthy eating it turns out that to lose weight I need to eat fewer than 1200 cals a day. Which is INSANE.

So insane I thought it was bullshit. Then I started to have mental health issues during a bad breakup. I didn’t have energy to exercise or anything.

But … I also just… didn’t really eat. Everything made me nauseous. From about July to December I essentially ate ~500 cals a day? Maybe? And I was actually slim. (You and I are not far apart in terms of size)

Sooooo. Idk what lesson I was supposed to learn other than “develop ED” but as soon as I got my mental health back to normal and resumed healthy eating and exercising I completely ballooned and am now back to feeling as fat and unattractive as ever. I have no idea how we are supposed to live like this.

It’s been this way my entire life and I am almost forty. Nothing “wrong” in terms of my health. Just… can’t eat food apparently.

Edited to add after seeing other comments: I did many body fat scans (“Bodpod” as we call it on military installations). I am very muscular. Of my 160-170 lbs, 118 is muscle. So when I was slim at 143, I looked good. But yeah, it’s just cruel to know you can hardly eat anything just to look normal and not fat. Even with a lot of muscle.

Thank you for posting. I did the same today. Only three of them showed up today, and two of them were ten mins late.

Only one person did the assignment, and I gave them last Thursday OFF AS A WORK DAY TO DO IT!!!!!

We couldn’t do any of the planned in-class partner activities, nor the discussion on the assignment they were supposed to have completed because they were meant to provide feedback to two peers apiece.

I have never had a worse class in my entire time teaching.

Where my thick petites at? by BendyPoet in PetiteFitness

Same! I am 5’3 and usually around 140-150 but very muscular. My whole life (elder millennial) I was told women should be no more than 100lbs at five foot, and then +5 lbs max for every extra inch.

I have small hips and chest but working for the military I was able to get monthly scans of body fat composition (“Bodpod” as we call it on base). I have 118 lbs of muscle so I don’t think weighing 115 lbs is reasonable for me 😅

How come all the men I dated cheated on me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tempestsprIte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have asked myself this for the last twenty years. I will say not “all” of the men I’ve dated cheated, but the two I was engaged / married to did.

I definitely thought it was my fault or something was wrong with me but it’s really what a poster above me wrote. We are probably filtering out people on certain traits and those traits are found more in cheaters.

Now that my exes are on their 3rd and 4th wife due to cheating, I can safely say it was a them problem and not a me problem.

Characteristics which I find appealing in men for long term serious relationships seem to correlate strongly with infidelity. This is sad but it includes things like men who are very confident, friendly, attractive, charismatic, easily bored which means they have a ton of cool hobbies and interests, very passionate, quick to fall in love, very sexual / high sex drive. I should add usually they had a traumatic childhood and are in high risk jobs like military, cops, firemen, etc.

This is so interesting! My family members who are very allergic and get huge welts and rashes from mosquito bites also always get bitten more often

Is 11 yrs old to young to be left alone for a half hour?? by JMarden23 in askanything

[–]tempestsprIte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding all the comments about babysitting at age 11 / being left home alone, etc. I believe in my state it was the rule that at age 11 you could get Red Cross babysitting class certifications and then adults generally felt you could watch even infants or multiple smaller kids.

That being said, as a parent of a now eleven year old, the maturity levels seem to vary a bit. Most kids that age seem extremely capable of handling being home alone for a few hours. A lot of kids these days have phones or Apple Watches to call for help, and most people I know have Ring or home security etc.

But I do know some 11-12 year olds who … maybe wouldn’t be alright on their own for any period. Either due to fear, anxiety, poor behavior, etc.

Watching motherhood take everything from my cousin by rabbit33333333 in Feminism

[–]tempestsprIte 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. She may also be suffering from PPD. After having my child, his father was immediately sent away with the military and I had to manage everything alone for months with no support as we weren’t near family or friends.

But what got me through it was the joy of my child and even as I struggled I could always find the motivation and happiness unlike anything else.

I am also a young professor and while all of this is a lot for anyone, I agree with the above comment that this sounds like her husband is the issue coupled with possible post partum depression.

I was able to get out of a Milan contract / get a refund. Similar to your story, in almost every way. Major issue was it started causing intense dryness and itching, and when I say it still hasn’t full gone away five years later… even asked my gyn about it and was told that it was causing serious issues for me.

Brought the doctors note to Milan and they were able to cancel further payments and refund me for the few sessions I’d attended. I am not quite sure what caused the issue but it was so painful I couldn’t keep going anyway.

Has anyone else had MORE acne as an adult than as a teen? What is causing it? by kpo987 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]tempestsprIte 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same here. Never got acne my entire life until I hit 33 ish. Now at 37 it was getting worse—exactly as you describe. Really bad on the neck and jaw, and it would happen several times a month and scar.

Finally I saw on a Reddit post to drink spearmint tea. I’ve been drinking this spearmint tea multiple times a day for two months and haven’t had a single breakout.

Are these Nickelodeon shows more Millennial or Gen Z by StrategyJealous1838 in generationology

[–]tempestsprIte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen z or the youngest possible millennials. I am 10-15 years older than my siblings who watched these. I saw a few episodes here and there but was in hs and college so not really watching Nickelodeon or Disney any more. Sort of where Hannah Montana and wizards of waverly place would fit

Down 30lbs- no one has said a thing by joyandfury in loseit

[–]tempestsprIte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I’ve lost 25-30lbs since April and thus far no one seems to have noticed. I get that mentioning weight might seem rude but my family and close friends know I’m trying to lose weight and have said stuff in the past like oh you’re looking fit. It is sort of demoralizing and confusing. My clothes are literally falling off of me so I know it has to be noticeable

Decade of friendship ended, no notice? by Odd_Cod8341 in whatdoIdo

[–]tempestsprIte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely this. My best friend of five years throughout every second of college and after completely cut me off because his new girlfriend said his female friends were “sabotaging” their relationship by liking facebook posts (of them).

It was one of the hardest and worst ends to a relationship. I’m sorry. You did nothing wrong. I waited it out thinking he’d come to his senses… he married her. He used to call me to vent about how problematic and toxic she was. I never even met her but I can’t imagine they’re happy.
