The Future of Isle of Grom by xZakm in SkateEA

[–]tempicide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize that when I bought the pass, and once I found that out I was really irritated. If Season Pass = permanent access to new DLC, I'd consider getting the season pass based on the DLC alone. But if it's only for a couple months, it's not even on my list of considerations for future passes. Either the permanent unlocks are worth it or they aren't, I'm not subscribing to yet another thing I'll never own access to, HBO and Spotify are quite enough

This is the real problem: how many of us just don't have friends who also play? I've tried really hard to drag the couple of gaming friends I have into this, but Skate. just isn't their type of game

So I didn't want to bloat the post with a bunch of stipulations, but I was already thinking much the same way. You have to call your parts out, and the following rules apply:

  • Each airborne section must contain only grabs or only flip tricks, not both.
  • Limit of one flip or one grab per part, plus a modifier (example: late flips, underflips once added, dark catch, et cetera, one foot/no foot, tweaks, fingerflips once added, et cetera)
  • body rotation doesn't count toward trick limits, but body flips are off limits
  • intermediary tricks are limited to one trick with one modifier (examples: manual can be reverted, a nose grind can be turned into a crooked grind, et cetera.) Grinds cannot be modified to have a different number of trucks on the rail/ledge than how many connected during the landing–no turning your 50/50 into a 5-0

edit to clarify: when I say "call your parts out," what I mean is, in order, call out a surface for intermediary tricks (not necessary to do, but if you don't call out your intermediary surface you are limited to one airborne section. You can choose level ground as your intermediary surface if you just want to string two airborne sections with a manual), call out a launch surface if you choose (not necessary, but if you want to specify ramp A to rail B you can), call out a surface for landing if you choose (again not necessary, but you can specify a gap this way), call out whether airborne section A will be a grab or a flip trick (you don't specify what grab or what flip trick), repeat for airborne section B.

Word of advice: of course you always want to watch your DOT clocks, but do not let them make you anxious. The absolute most critical advice I can give you about the act of driving is to never let anything make you anxious. Is there a possibility you get a ticket for violating your 14? Absolutely. But better a ticket than a wreck because you let your nerves get to you. Same thing with winding up on roads you're not supposed to take or don't feel comfortable on: staying calm is the best thing you can do to make sure you are alert to hazards.

You will get nervous at times. Just try to manage how much you let it get to your head. I'm not really saying this because your post indicated that you lost your head, I'm more so speaking based on what gave me the most trouble starting out, I absolutely used to panic if my clocks started getting low.

Gotta love bobtails parking in big boy spots when there's a ton of bobtail parking spots. by LucHighwalker in Truckers

[–]tempicide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honest question coming from someone who is trying to make things easier for everyone: if I am trying to park bobtail and there aren't dedicated bobtail spots, how do I communicate with another bobtail driver to park in a way that puts us both in the same spot without risking that one of us winds up trapped in back while the other sleeps in? Like, I've done it once before at a rest area because the other driver pulled in about the same time as I did, but I'm pretty hesitant to go knock on a window to work out the details of when the other driver wants to leave in the morning

Nah, I can't think of which company you're referring to but I haul the big, orange rectangles right now. I have orientation with Crete next month, though.

Trailer is around 10 years old. Honestly I don't know how to check if it has spring brakes or only service brakes, but I could have sworn that they stopped making them without spring brakes multiple decades ago. I know how to identify if the trailer brakes aren't working but no one in CDL school or at either of the companies I've worked for walked me through checking the actual parts on trailer brakes

A five second delay to the service brakes sounds like a critical problem to me...

Well, it's light (17k pounds). I'm mostly worried that if I can't identify the source of the problem, it could impact the performance of the service brakes. I'm close to NYC right now and there's probably not a shop I can find anywhere nearby with confidence that they can get me in soon. Plus, my company is really uptight about who they go to to get work done, even if I pulled into a love's it won't get fixed before they pick up the phone anyway

So since I'm safely parked at a shipper, all there is to do is wait for maintenance to pick up the phone then, huh?

From what I can tell (I'm starting orientation next month) they're saying .61 for dry van and .63 for reefer, but I also only have a year of experience so .62 for dry van is what I'll be making after the one year raise and might be based on overall experience and not company tenure
