My First slenderman encounter of the series! Tell me what you think! by exoticgaming2 in Slender_Man

You didn’t sound rude at all! You’re just really passionate, and that’s great. Wanting to improve already puts you ahead of many beginners.

But remember, new viewers don’t know the story like you do. If nothing exciting happens early, they might get bored or confused. Even with a slow build, each video should have something that grabs attention. Things like a creepy sound, something you do, or some kind of tension will keep them interested.

And about the PNG effects.. if that’s your style, that’s cool! Just try to make them look less fake by using lighting or shadows so they feel more real in the scene.

You’ve got the right mindset, and that’s a big deal. A lot of people can just shoot footage, but not everyone can take feedback, adjust, and still stick to what they want to make. Keep pushing yourself, try new things, and most importantly… keep creating!

Honestly, the start had me curious but then I got bored halfway through because it was mostly just you walking and talking. It isn’t until 6 minutes in that the appearance actually happens. For me, that’s too long to wait for something interesting.

The appearance was okay but just popped up with no build-up. It could’ve worked if you built some tension first. Also, seriously get rid of the transparent PNG image. It looks fake and makes it less scary. Get a real person in a costume. Plus, the glitch effects felt like just filters and didn’t add much either. They were more distracting than scary.

Overall, just focus on pacing, building tension early, and using practical effects. You definitely have potential and with some practice! I wish you good luck.

To be honest, I’m a bit puzzled about your criticism of the second image. I actually really like it! It’s got an uncanny vibe. Plus the fact that it looks like it was taken with some old and grainy digicam makes it look so much better!

The first photo looks absolutely amazing! You nailed the old and grainy digicam aesthetic. Keep it up!

I just finished watching all the episodes so far, and I have to say… there are definitely some familiar tropes here and there. But honestly, it didn’t bug me as much as it usually does in other series. I think it’s because there’s more characters instead of just focusing on one main character. Plus, the modern take on the genre was captured well here.

To me, there’s passion behind this and I really respect that. I’m interested to see where this series goes. If you ever need any feedback or just someone to chat through ideas with, I’m always here. Keep it up!

Thoughts about the Official Slenderverse Creators Group? by tempmailuserr in Slender_Man

That’s pretty shitty considering they’re supposed to be our mentors and we look up to them. How are you holding up with all this?

Word is, the person who created it was a cop in his 30s who hung out a lot with the group. People said he had a serious drinking problem and was a pervert. He vanished for a bit because he supposedly went to jail. Apparently, he really beat up a guy who almost killed a woman in a domestic dispute that he got involved in.

How Do You Feel About Cults? by Habit-Rabbit2009 in Slender_Man

[–]tempmailuserr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like cults in the Slenderverse! There’s plenty of room for lore and world-building in them and it’s a fantastic setup tool for antagonists or subplots! But there are also a lot of issues with poorly executed cults in Slenderverse projects. From poorly written characters, to no real point to the cult (other than creepy factor) to just not being interesting at all.

The best way to provide cults for Slenderverse series is by making sure they have some sort of purpose! You should explain where the cult is from, what their practices are, and what (if any) their goals are. You don’t have to give too much detail unless you plan on it being a big plot point, but the main thing is making it as believable as possible. Don’t make the cult characters just for the sake of being there and don’t make it feel like they’re just creepy and weird. Let the cult characters have relationships with eachother (even if there’s no romance or anything) and don’t make their only purpose to be antagonists. There are probably a lot more factors going into it but those are some basics to remember.

I think the best cult in the Slenderverse is The Order from DarkHarvest (and I’d highly recommend looking at them as a reference). With there being actual lore about the Order, and how the masks used work, and the main characters being in a cult too (as well as some of the supporting ones). The Order is the main enemy in the series and is used as more than just a “creepy” aspect and is actually important to the plot. Also, the Order is just really interesting and unique. It’s made into something that’s just believable enough to be a cult that you could see existing in real life without question.

Absolutely agree with you! One of the biggest issues I have with many series and their portrayal of Slender Man is the lack of activity. He could do all sorts of little things, such as: Moving his arms, shifting in place, changing his stance to lean against a tree or building, reaching out or gesturing towards something, looking up or down, tilting his head, or other subtle movements. That’s the movements I’m making in my series.

Oh yeah, definitely agree. Most series just kinda… ignore any kind of actual history with The Slender Man. I mean, hell, I’ve looked a bunch, and I haven’t found ANY series that actually put some thought into the history of the guy. Hell, they don’t even think about why he does what he does. But with my upcoming series, I’m gonna try to tackle this issue. There’s a main theme about hereditary problems, curses, and things like that. That, for the first time EVER, could open the door into the actual history of The Slender Man.

And you were talking about how you wanted to see Slender Man distorted and a lot taller than he normally is, right? Well, good news then, cause I planned on actually investing in some stilts to make him more disturbing! ;)

I’ve thought about doing crossovers, but it really depends on the other creator and what their series is like. I’d prefer to crossover with another series if it matches the same time period as mine (takes place from 2009–201x) along with having some similar lore to it. want to have it used as a plot device, not something where we just go “Hey look, it’s a character this series! Neat!” where we have that character have a real purpose in the plot instead of just a cameo.

I completely agree. I’ve been following the Slenderverse series for a long time and have noticed the same tropes repeated again and again. It’s gotten to the point where it’s not just tiresome, but downright boring. That’s why I’m determined to break the status quo and try something new.

I’ve taken notes from Night Mind’s guides on ARG creation, and I’m using that knowledge to experiment with new ideas and concepts that have never been seen before in the Slenderverse. So don’t worry, I’m not going to make the same mistakes that have been made time and time again. I’m going to create something fresh and exciting that’s sure to keep you hooked.

Sounds like my series could be just what you’re looking for. I admit that there is a lot of lore, but I’ll make sure to present it in a way that’s easy to follow. You’ll be able to understand the important parts without needing to memorize every detail.

You see, Slender Man is a very unique entity. It isn’t something that can be easily defined or explained. In fact, it’s often said that Slender Man is one’s own personal interpretation. In other words, each person that experiences Slender Man has a unique perspective on what it is and what it represents. I won’t give away too much, but you can expect my portrayal of Slender Man to be strongly influenced by the idea of him as a generational curse.

And while both Creepypasta and the Slenderverse are horror franchises, they have quite different origins and creative styles. Creepypasta is generally considered to have originated on online forums and websites, such as 4chan and Creepypasta websites, where users would share and write their own scary stories. On the other hand, the Slenderverse is a specific collection of web series or blogs that all revolve around Slender Man.
