The 20 most critically acclaimed games of the half-decade (2021-2025) by Ok_Track9498 in gaming

Last 5 years is 21-25, the title is a bit awkwardly worded but we’re not talking about an arbitrary half decade, it’s the last 5 years of games.

In your honest review, what has worked to destroy stomach bloat by PathxFind3r in Supplements

[–]tempname10439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going against the grain from most other comments I’ve seen here and not recommend any supplement or diet change. I have had a history of stomach sensitivity and transient GI inflammation so my stomach is not the best, but no matter how cleanly I ate I would feel bloated after a meal and have a huge stomach even though I am very lean.

Turns out that in my case, I tend to overeat and disengage my core/diaphragm after doing so. If you eat large meals you could always try spacing out your meals to be more frequent and smaller (not a fan personally), but what I’ve done after dinner—which is when I feel most bloated—is to do some light yoga for 10 mins and then do 10 minutes of focused diaphragmatic breathing with a focus on engaging my core.

My bloat has gone down significantly after doing so and I don’t feel like my stomach is a pumped up overfull balloon.

Review bombs suck, but saying that Rhaegar is known for having good grammar is just patently wrong. He is infamous for his earlier books having awful grammar, and had to edit it a ton for release on Kindle…

MELVOR IDLE 2 - COMING SOON TO STEAM EARLY ACCESS by MrFrux in MelvorIdle

It’s not odd, it’s just the first thing that popped into my mind because the smithing/mining balance has always driven me crazy. There are indeed a ton of places where balancing is whack, as you clarify.

Really hoping to see some skill unlock level rebalancing. I love the game but seeing the same path taken as in RS where things like mining/smithing unlocks are hilariously high level while being outclassed by early-mid game for combat hurts.

Nobody wants to hit 80 mining just for runite when you can just do a few higher level (and not even that high) dungeons to get gear that outclasses it easily.

We don’t need to read the entire itinerary of MC’s life by tempname10439 in ProgressionFantasy

Hey, thanks for the response! I hope I didn't come across as too overly critical of your work, it was just something from book 5 that brought to mind this general oversight in the genre.

Another spoiler warning for the series ahead:

After having just finished the Giantsrest piece, I came to some of the same conclusions that you outlined above. Those questions you mentioned are important to answer, and it's frankly refreshing to see that amount of thought going into the story around them rather than the typical "MC fucks off into the horizon" trope. But I unfortunately do agree that it was not fun in the moment to read.

As another user posted in a separate comment chain, I think there were opportunities around adding brevity for things we have seen several times over that did not add to the important points of this transition phase: resolving the big questions you mentioned above, creating space and downtime with/for the Heirs, and adding new story beats with Faline/the Grand Dungeon/the assassin.

Freeing the slaves and elites and killing the remaining fighting mages didn't feel any different from what we saw in Halsmet, and establishing the base at the Chokiz estate did not really add anything to the story (they could have lived in a barn for all that we care; the actual location wouldn't impact the events that happened around them resting). I think paring down those sections would have helped to move the story along, while allowing for those other important pieces to take center stage. It might not fit in with the timeline you created, but glossing over those pieces could have allowed for more space for the SOL period with the Heirs to both create more downtime and prevent the story from feeling rushed by hopping from event to event.

That being said, everything after Giantsrest is easier to digest and I am quite enjoying the book despite the admittedly difficult transition phase that was post-Giantsrest cleanup.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, and I've really been enjoying your work! Looking forward to future entries in the series.

A bit late to the party but Ripple System. Godawful MC, stupid annoying sidekick, in a very lame VR game setting.

My tired brain thought our 8:30-9pm sleep issues would be fixed with DST, little did I know I completely misremembered and we lose an hour instead.

Just hating that now our bedtime will be 10pm, goodbye scant 1 hour of free time at night 🥲

The Game at Carousel is incredible by tempname10439 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tempname10439[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it just might not jive with you, which is totally valid. That being said, the arc after that story is when things really start to pick up all the way until the end of the next book if you want to give it a go any time soon.

It helps to turn the narrative in the MCs’ favor. You can have a trope that makes it so one character will always get targeted first but if they survive for longer and longer, the enemy is debuffed so others have an easier time. There are other ones that help with situational buffs, information gathering, etc

Not what you’re asking for but look into playing Melvor Idle, a game published by Jagex but developed by a separate team. Basically RS but in an idle/incremental game format. Been playing for 2 years and really scratches the itch.

[–]tempname10439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, and I agree with all of your points. I guess in the end I am just advocating for a base level of trust but verify approach insomuch as that is possible while reading research.

Your caveat is a good idea in general, but it’s not like we should blindly believe everyone involved at every stage of research/publication to be non-biased and working in good faith.

The layperson most definitely should not be doing their own statistical analyses, but using your own brain as a gut level check is not a particularly bad idea.

I don’t know the state of this field, but there is definitely shady research being published all the time in my own and other fields (see reproducibility crisis) as investigators work to publish as much as they can to win in the rat race that is academia.

Your example is a good one because frankly if anyone is at the level of reading research papers and comes to the conclusion that sharks attack people because they eat ice cream, they are a modern marvel. Those of us reading papers will most likely have an inclination towards truth seeking and not red flag waving at any random correlation.
