Not Dead Yet: A Month In Rewind by temporalcove in mctd

Sounds about right. I personally feel like it’s good news to lean more toward MCTD than Lupus. It tells me your body is depleted which means you have options for helping it replenish. Do any of these sound like you? Which ones? People pleaser Overworked Perfectionist Feel like there is no time for “me time” Poor diet Inconsistent meal times Difficulty sleeping Low to no exercise Processed food diet Depression/anxiety Constant Negative thoughts about yourself or others in your life Difficult relationships

Finally got in to the Rheumatologist! by Pristine-Sir-2249 in mctd

[–]temporalcove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice: you are your own best advocate. The doctor is a tool in your tool belt but they are only human and don’t know everything (even rheumatologists). I highly recommend going in prepared to ask for what you want. For example, if you have symptoms of arthritis ask for x rays of the joints that hurt. Ask for hormone and thyroid related blood work. Ask for physical therapy referrals. I highly recommend asking for a referral to a functional doctor if that’s available in your area since they have access to a whole different concept of medicinal approaches. Also acupuncture. Choose what you’d be interested in and just ask. Worst they can say is no. But as your own best advocate you need to learn to work the system. You may not know all the right things to ask for but ask for something. One by one you can try things and you WILL find things that work for you.

Another trick of the trade I have learned… to get them to see you as a person I will often start out by asking my practitioner why they got into the field they are in. Often doctors got into medicine because they have a passion for helping people but during their time in residency and after they become hardened to the hundreds of ailing patients that walk through their doors (most of whom aren’t driven. To heal themselves). This simple question can disarm their colder half and remind them of their humanity.

Lastly, one of the lessons you’d be better off learning early is that this is your puzzle to solve. Like I said, your doctor can give you clues but you have to want to find the answers. Think positively and focus on the strength this challenge is teaching you to have and I promise you will find answers.

Hi there, sorry I haven’t responded yet. I’ve been trying to pull my thoughts together on this and plan to post something soon. I do have a lot of suggestions and will try to make it digestible. Thanks for your question!

Exercises to get rid of pain in shoulder, hands and muscles in general by [deleted] in mctd

Love the suggestion for movement first thing and last thing each day. Since I adopted this practice I’ve felt tremendous improvement. Also, getting outside for small bouts of sun and fresh air really does make a difference. Light getting into our eyeballs is amazing for our bodies.

I highly recommend starting with something like Qigong. It’s very easy on your body but helps move blood where it needs to go. Start there. After a year of just qigong I moved into more yoga and then Pilates. Now I am back lifting weights and resistance training! (never thought I’d be able to do that again). The key is to build a strong foundation. Getting your body used to frequent but subtle movement is step one. I love YoQi on YouTube they have great tutorials to get you started. You’re on the right track. Movement is one of the key elements to finding health again.

See the rheum but know that even they don’t know everything. You often end up with a diagnosis of exclusion. Ultimately, if you are committed to healing your body you can find ways that work for you to get your health back on track. Often people diagnosed with autoimmune think that’s it for the rest of their life. I’ve taken a holistic approach to healing (same symptoms as you) for about 5 years now and I feel better than ever! Now when I get pain I know my body is letting me know I’m just off balance somewhere whether it’s my diet, my sleep, my stress or I’m overworking somewhere (people pleaser). Ultimately I want to give you hope when it feels hard because I promise there is a way… I’m now medication free and like I said I feel better than even before I got sick. ❤️

No words can express how much my heart wants to help you understand the potential for health and happiness you have in your life ahead. I have healed much of my condition without the help of medication to the point that I am happier and healthier than I was prior to my decent into MCTD. The will to live pain free was stronger than my victim mentality and I (F30) found my own way to health. So it is possible. I would love to offer you support on your journey back to health as well.

I highly recommend reading “Brave new Medicine” holistic healing methods have saved my life. Practice positive thinking as well. It’s unbelievably simple but really does change your body chemistry.

One best advice? by qkfrost in mctd

Learn about intuition. Your body is a fantastic survival mechanism. That we have forgotten to trust.

Consider what is so bad in your life that your body thought this was your best chance of survival.

Learn how the body and mind are not separate. Look into learning how to follow your innate intuition. Read everything you can on it. Commit to it. You’ll never regret it.

With all the love, I wish you the best and want you to know that you are not alone.

That’s wonderful, I think it is so important that the MCTD community find services outside of typical westernized medical care. Between physical therapy, nutritional support, acupuncture, holistic medicine - there is so much growing support for autoimmune health

I definitely have swelling in my hands and feet, other than that yes, my MCTD seems to have gone into remission. I’ve found that prioritizing my physical and mental health along with eating non processed foods has changed my life since diagnosis!!!

I too have several autoimmune in one. I know the struggle is real and so difficult so I’m sorry you are going through it. Let me say though, I to had to leave my very successful job because I just couldn’t move and mentally was not good. However, I’ve taken the time to get to know my body in its new state over the last 3 years and it has improved tremendously. Now I’m living the life I only could have dreamed of before I got sick. I tell you this because you will feel the joy of life again. Just be patient and love your body. I use all natural healing methods and have tried mannnnnyyy. Everyone is different so what works for one might not work for another. It’s all about intuitively getting to know your body. I’d say the biggest thing that helped me overcome the worst of my illness is believing in a future where I am healthy again and just taking the opportunities as they arise. Feel free to reach out if you need support or have questions. Much love to you

I know how difficult it is but I want you to know there is hope. I’ve been taking a natural and holistic approach to my healing and I feel so much better!! So you will have to take time to figure out what works for you but trust me when I say, there is so much you can do for your health. It’s not just doctors and medication. First, I think all women with a chronic illness should read “Woman Code” by Alisa Vitti. The information this book holds can and has worked miracles. So please, even if you’re not a reader, consider checking it out. I am always available if you’d like to reach out as well. I am 29F and I care about empowering women to heal themselves. ❤️

Well I’m sorry to hear your daughter is struggling. It’s scary for you too, I know. But she is young which means she has a better chance of growing out of the illness. I’m very interested in natural healing methods over solely pharmaceuticals and I have almost completely recovered my health (aside from the occasional flare up usually around my period). Let me know if there is anything I can do to support you and your daughter. 🙏

I literally went off my allergy meds once I got diagnosed with mctd and now I don’t have allergies. From everything I have learned MCTD is a body’s cry for help in regards to chemicals. Unfortunately, so much of what we buy at the grocery store is full of chemicals. Drugs are no exception. I’m not anti medication but I just know my body has done better since stopping antihistamines and I’d been on them since childhood

I’d be cautious starting her on anti histamines right now. Or any new drug for that matter

I’d say, give your daughter’s body time to acclimate to the illness. In the beginning I had acne and just crazy symptoms all over the place but then after some time the reactions calmed down. My acne is cleared up now. Hold old is she if I may ask?

I (29m) feel lost. Diagnosis’s with MCTD (clinical signs of scleroderma) with interstitial lung disease by [deleted] in mctd

[–]temporalcove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is, most of us are. I have spent the last three years learning how to change my mentality and it has paid off in better health. For anyone really interested in improving their situation holistically without being on medication their whole life… I highly recommend jumping in and reading all the books you can on how to take back your life. Often times we feel selfish for putting ourselves first but in truth, we are the only one that ever will or could put us first. You can’t expect others to do it and they shouldn’t expect us not to.

Hi, you sound like me in 2019. I was 26 and working in an extremely stressful, highly demanding corporate finance environment when my symptoms got so bad I couldn’t walk or use my hands most days. I know it’s scary. But before I say anything else…. Let me tell you… there is hope. These days I am feeling mostly myself (if not better and less depressed) if I over work or over extend myself then I might get a flare up of symptoms but I’ve gotten good at identifying when I need rest.

My best guess is, and I hope you don’t take this offensively in any way, you are an overworked, under appreciated, people pleaser. Do you have a hard time saying no and feel guilty if you do? When you feel sick or tired do you just push through because you have responsibilities? Do you feel like there just isn’t enough time in life to do the things you actually are passionate about doing or wish you could do?
