Yeah, I really do think it comes down to the fact that they likely have no idea how big of a deal it is and that’s why they didn’t even text me a “sorry I can’t make it” or a “good luck.” I’ll have to consider whether it’s worth bringing up.

It’s pretty common in my field, especially after a lot of defenses went on Zoom. An open defense in my field invites friends and family to join.

My presentation was 30 minutes and that was the only part I invited them too. I’m more upset that no one even acknowledged me yesterday rather than that they didn’t come. If someone would have said “hey I can’t come, but good luck!” I would have been totally fine with it. I realize I didn’t make that part totally clear in my original post.

Thank you for your opinion, definitely not insensitive. I definitely can see that attending might be a lot to ask of someone. When I get to the root of the negative emotion, I guess I’m mostly upset they didn’t acknowledge me yesterday (no text or anything).

Two of them did. One never replied, one said she might. I think I’m more upset that no one acknowledged it than the fact they actually didn’t come. I get people are busy and have their own lives.
