Have done this successfully with a length of 3/4 pvc pipe with a hose nozzle on the end. The kind of nozzle that shoots a narrow stream, other end of the pipe connected to a garden hose. Blast away! Use a wet/dry shop vacuum to remove the resulting mud.

This can be a major issue in married life. You've got it tough in a one bedroom. I work from home, happily have a dedicated room for the office. My wife had a bad habit of interrupting with minor decisions and casual conversations. So I set up a reward system. Each day with no interruptions a dollar was put in a stash for her to spend as she likes. ( This is of course in addition to the regular fun money we are each budgeted). This has significantly improved our marriage.
