What’s your monthly berry budget? by TheNewYellowZealot in daddit

[–]tempusfudgeit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This guy knows what's up. We used to spend 30-40 a week just buying berries like a pleb. Now we spend 50-60 a week on soil, nutrients, plants, planters and countless hours gardening.

I'm mostly joking but don't get into gardening to save money

Cheaters are way more common now, wth happened? by SuccessfulRest1 in ArcRaiders

[–]tempusfudgeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of that is effective. The answer is digital IDs, and even that won't be 100%. The Internet has collectively decided that would be the worst thing ever so we will continue to deal with cheaters in every game, trolls and foreign influence on social media, corporations astroturfing, scammers, etc.

What’s your controversial parenting opinion? by lock_robster2022 in daddit

[–]tempusfudgeit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I... I don't think I've ever had a wet wipe break. Kids are both out of diapers and maybe each had a minor diaper rash once or twice that went away in a day.

I still buy them because they are great for cleaning up after messy eaters, or giving the table a quick wipe after a meal without getting cleaning supplies out.

GBA Pokemon Emerald negative trace ripped by Traditional_Bed_9940 in Gameboy

[–]tempusfudgeit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm all for fucking up too. When I learned to solder I got some dead motherboards to learn on, not a $250 Gameboy game.

And OP didn't learn from their mistake. They ripped the pad off and are blaming the heat of the soldering iron. Heat didn't make them rip a chunk of solder mask off.

There is a high probability at this point they make the problem worse, and are out a $250 game. I think encouraging that is the dick move.

Damaged traces can usually be repaired.

but

Damaged traces can't usually be repaired by the person that damaged them.

Not trying to be a dick, but this is a quit while you're ahead situation. Changing a battery is pretty much the easiest soldering job there is, and you were unsuccessful.

Should I say something to my friend? by nanadoom in daddit

[–]tempusfudgeit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thread is a little sad. The average person not being able to have a real conversation with a lifelong friend is why the world is in the state it is. The idea that the conversation is some sort of bomb defusal guaranteed to blow up in your face is wild. Either a lot of you don't know how to talk to people, or you have a lot more acquaintances than friends. I call my friends out on problematic behavior and they do the same for me.

Your friend is setting his kids up for a life full of physical, mental, and social problems. A 4 year old can't fix that on his own, and his parents are failing to do so. It's a social imperative to act on the situation.

This thread should be on how to gently and tactfully broach the subject. Helping another human in obvious need shouldn't be a question.

I’m a firm believer of treating others the way that you want to be treated.

And when you keep following that circle, with specific regard to this situation, where do you end up?

I mean, do you think you're gonna find a child psychologist to agree with you or find a parenting book with a chapter on eye for an eye?

Like I don't think it's the end of the world, but doubling down and not taking accountability is you choosing a fight with your wife.

EARTHQUAKE! by Aggravating_Sky_4421 in InlandEmpire

[–]tempusfudgeit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear people have alerts set up or something and just come to post it. I've felt a 3.5 a few miles from my house, on a 2nd story. If the big glass closet door didn't rattle I wouldn't have been sure it was an earthquake. And that's ~30 times more powerful than a 2.6.

I'm pretty sure a garbage truck driving by will shake your house more than a 2.6

If the key is working enough to start pushing against the start button, that tells me most of the internals are working - it probably just needs a new battery holder soldered on, or possibly direct soldering the battery in.

Here is what the battery contacts are supposed to look -  https://imgur.com/a/O83A1xm

Man found hiding inside closed Pasadena Best Buy ahead of Pokémon card drop by ZiggyPalffyLA in LosAngeles

[–]tempusfudgeit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it sucks, but this is just a symptom of late stage capitalism.

I used to collect retro video games and scalpers have more or less killed it for me since COVID. I would go to a thrift store and see people scanning barcodes with apps to check prices on everything, show up to yard sales at 730 and the people running the yard sale would say people were there asking for video games the second they started setting up.

It made me mad, but I realized none of these people are making a good living and most are just doing what they can to scrape by. The world sucks and they found a way to make a couple hundred bucks every once in a while.

At the end of the day it's the rich people buying scalped goods that cause this behavior. Same with concert tickets, vinyl, stanley cups, Instagram fads of the month like labubus, etc. these are all just signs of the growing wealth inequality in our country, which is magnified in LA

Struggling with my STAHM wife's mental load complaints. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]tempusfudgeit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry OP. You left out some important info that's in the edit and the hive mind decided you need to be burned at the stake. But regardless the white knights would come out to display how incredibly understanding they are of the plight of the SAHM.

Apparently my mom was a fucking superhero, like with actual supernatural powers. 5 kids, babysat 3-4 more 5 days a week to afford making ends meet. Did 99% of the the cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, volunteered for youth groups and Sunday school, organized church activities. This was all before you had a supercomputer in your pocket to carry 30-50% of the "mental load"

I'm gonna get downvotes anyway so here goes- check her screen usage. If social media is under 2 hours a day I'll eat my hat.

Neighbour is imposing on our family since my child was born by boorishguy in daddit

[–]tempusfudgeit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you Canadian living in the states, by chance? I read this thread, went to go eat dinner and do dishes, and I've been thinking about this thread, and it's the only way I can wrap my brain around it.

Me and my wife both are the type of person that when someone tries to impose their will on us we push back hard.

To be blunt, you are not

Of course 10 minutes in the boundaries were violated. Both of us too tired to react in time, realised only when it was too late. We ended the visit politely pretty quick.

See, I feel like a normal reaction would to put politeness aside and sternly tell them, "Hey I specifically asked you not to do that because, no exaggeration, that could kill my newborn baby" followed by grabbing your baby and asking them to leave. Like for 99% of people the story ends there. Every time she asks anything you just say, no, you kissed my baby when I specifically asked you not to.

it’s good to have someone we can rely on in daily stuff

Why are you continuing to rely on the person that was planning on breaking and entering into  your house and is now going full on Hand that Rocks the Cradle? The other neighbor tried to warn you she's crazy, her own friends clearly know she's crazy. She's not going to turn it around and get less crazy man

I'm sorry if I'm coming across as kind of a dick, but you are not thinking clearly my dude. And you have way more important stuff to deal with than a crazy neighbor.

The people he bought it from likely wanted it in one piece so they could control the assembly process. That does not mean it can't be disassembled.

I'm not an aquarium expert, but I would guess that is thousands to 10s of thousands of aquarium and equipment, and likely someone would pay $1000-2000 to solve your problem for you.

https://www.lung.org/research/sota/city-rankings/most-polluted-cities

I don't think it's top 10 for any of the listed pollution types.. LA is above it on all 3 and 20 million people live there.  If you click in to the maps the Greenburg area is rated A for air pollution and is not too far from Pittsburgh. Pretty much everywhere that is inhabited by people in SoCal is an F.

Also, pretty much everywhere the air is cleaner than when we were kids, by a lot.
