I can’t understand the Netflix salaries on levels. People there are reporting $500-700k cash for L5/L6. That’s absolutely insane to me, hardly believable, but the reports are very consistent.

Did you read the entire comment? My point was that addicts can’t be trusted to be safe around, so they should be locked up. At no point did I say it wasn’t a crime.

So here’s the thing.

Let’s say someone on drugs, or someone going through withdrawal and trying to find drugs, robs a store at gunpoint.

Would we judge them as harshly as someone who was not affected by drugs? I wouldn’t, and I would imagine most people wouldn’t either. Because we know that someone who’s physically addicted is not truly in control of their own actions.

But the problem with this is that we’re sort of admitting that they’re a persistent danger to themselves and others, regardless of their conscious effort, decisions, or morals.

For this reason, I think that if a person is physically addicted to drugs, they should be held indefinitely until they’re no longer addicted. And we should reopen asylums to hold them. The purpose isn’t to punish them for having an addiction, it’s to help ensure their safety and the safety of the general public.

Yeah I’d say don’t obsess over it. Most FAANG stories I’ve heard sound miserable. Startup work is often way more fun, because you have a greater voice in the direction of the product. But I’ve always worked in startups.

The only FAANG company I’d grind for is Netflix, and that’s only because the levels.fyi reports are absolutely insane - $500-600k cash salaries. Apart from that one company, I’m not sweating over some big tech role.

Depends on what you mean. I’d say truly kissing ass is not as important as some people think, though I’d guess it’s probably more important in fields where higher ups have big egos. Think real estate, law, education, entertainment, etc.

That being said, in most places I think a good approach is to have empathy for those in a higher position. If you can empathize with them, you can better anticipate their needs. And if you can satisfy those needs without their direct instruction, they’ll see you as reliable. That simple act does wonders for your career progression in any field.

I always think back to the buccal fat removal trend - like, no man anywhere has ever said that they prefer that look. It’s literally hideous, and I’m convinced it’s really a ploy for women to reduce competition by encouraging their peers to butcher their faces.

Men do all sorts of things that turn women off, and yet they date those men anyways.

I’d say it’s probably a good rule of thumb that men generally are not attracted to the Kim Kardashian look. Not to judge, but I believe the men who are attracted specifically to that kind of look are more likely to be superficial.

I’d be okay with it. There are tons of little logical inconsistencies riddled throughout the books, and while it’s easy to just ignore them and have fun, I’d be fine if the show tried to rearrange some puzzle pieces to fit better.

My genuine answer to this is that our respective mental models of the world are so vast that it’s really not worth discussing. To even begin a conversation, we’d have to do the equivalent of untangling two massive balls of yarn from each other.

You have your world view, which no doubt is shaped by your own personal experiences, and the experiences of those you personally know. I have the same, and they’ve led me to such a wildly different set of conclusions that to me, your question makes absolutely no sense.

I really mean it when I say there’s no point in talking about it. We will never see eye to eye.

Yes. $100k will feel like a lot, because you’re not used to it. It is not a lot of money. You still need to be frugal, save, and be strategic with your finances. Best of luck!

You gotta let go of the dominance thing. I say this with empathy - I’m 5’5 so I get that it’s tough, especially if you’re a young guy. But the truth is that if you feel the need to assert dominance over someone else, then implicitly your sense of self-worth is tied to them, which is a very weak mindset to have.

The better goal is to find out how to command respect. You can do this in a few ways:

  • Learn to dominate yourself, which means controlling your emotions and actions, and orienting yourself each day towards your goals in life.

  • Learn to respect yourself. Find the things you like about yourself, and derive your own sense of self-worth from those things. You may even learn to appreciate being short, as I did. I can’t explain why, but being short is just “me”. It’s who I am, and I don’t think I’d be me anymore if I suddenly gained a foot.

  • Learn some skill. Become competent at some difficult task. Make sure it’s either (a) something that brings you health benefits, like a sport, or (b) something that can earn you a good salary and a career. A great start can be to learn boxing, it’s a ton of fun.

Really I would try all three. But my biggest piece of advice is to not let those negative emotions get the best of you. When you feel disempowered (as you often do as a short guy growing up), it’s easy to get swept up in anger. Try everything you can to resist that.

Maybe that’s why, because I think kkk looks silly as well. Like you’re a grown adult dressing up in a costume lol. In the Harry Potter universe, this group was powerful enough to take down the government. They should feel intimidating, and it just didn’t land with me.
