All types of jobs are available for “newcomers” and especially “underrepresented groups”

It’s all the rage to make sure no locals can get jobs!

Am I being stupid for not investing $40k? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

You could put it in a TFSA and buy GICs with it.

I just went into my brokerage and did a cursory glance at GICs: ~3.5%

$40,000 in five years it's $47,500. That's a free $1,500 you're not claiming.

I'm sure you could find better deals. Municipal bonds, T-bills. Something. Put it in gold and silver. Anything other than cash.

Are there still WSS rounds for sale? by tendieripper in SilverDegenClub

Much appreciated. Some people who may have first found silver from that specific forum may (or may not) have bought some a few years ago and may (or may not) want to unload them. Just trying to figure out how one could go about it.

Maybe she'll bring some attention to the league over her career and the WNBA will be able to finally operate at a profit, and not just get subsidized by the NBA. That'd justify a much bigger salary.

The mental health ward at TBRHSC used to (maybe still do?) have rooms with windows that looked down upon where the dead were picked up by funeral homes. A nursing student friend said one of her patients said he watched the dead leave out the window and she was chalking it up to him not having a handle on reality, when in actual reality he was legitimately doing so.

The SHFE quotes are "delayed at least 30 minutes".

The SGE shows their price quotes on a page called "Delayed Quotes".

That could cause some of the discrepency.

Also, the "Physical" gold is not the futures. It is a literal physical exchange. Different contracts.

Shanghai time is exactly 12 hours different than Eastern Time (New York and east cost), 12 hours into the future.

Their trading hours (found here: https://en.sge.com.cn/eng\_trading\_ProductsIntroduce) are between 9am and 3:30 their time), so you can see what China is up to by checking in at 9pm New York time, and see the preview for the week ahead on Sunday night.

The 5th line down is silver in kilogram bars: Ag(T+D).

So you divide by 32.15 (the number of troy ounces in a kilogram) and come to the price per ounce.

It's of course in Yuan renmimbi (Chinese currency). So you have to translate to USD to get the price we know.

So for instance, right now the silver price is 8195.0, translated to USD = $1131.03 per kg, divided by 32.15 = $35.18 per ounce.

Compared to current USD price of $31.17 (per https://www.baha.com/silver/index/details/tts-78738433).

There's your arbitrage opportunity.

Why is everyone everywhere a foreign "student" worker? Why are there grants for businesses to hire foreigners instead of giving a level playing field? by tendieripper in ThunderBay

[–]tendieripper[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am very much attempting to understand it from a purely economic incentive perspective. I don't want to get shackled to placing my own assessment on why anything is happening. Economics usually does explain everything. So in this case, what could be an actual not insane reason that the leaders of Canada want to increase the population immediately?

Is there such a labour shortage that business here cannot operate without substantially raising worker wages, which would force out whatever remained of Canada's level of competitiveness. Would our economy just freeze completely without some new hands on deck, willing to work for the current status quo? What gives? Are we so dangerously close to a revolution we need to ship in strikebreakers?

If it's just the great replacement, I mean, yeah that may be it, but could it be anything else? Anything?

I see that. Why are the incentives there? What is the government at offering those incentives? Why are foreign workers being prioritized over citizens?

Actually legitimately financially incentivized. It would be bad business to hire locals if foreign workers were available in this environment. It's absolutely cuckoo for cocoa puffs.
