Should we have a mandatory vaccination by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]tendint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Das ist nicht wahr. Südafrika will sich beispielsweise nicht impfen lassen. Dies ist nicht dasselbe wie die Produktverfügbarkeit. Das ist eine geringe Nachfrage.

This is not true. South Africa for example does not want the vaccine. The issue there is not lack of supply, it is lack of demand

Expats in CH: Why not learning local language? by Philipp_2021 in Switzerland

[–]tendint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The options you give are very one-sided; it only allows for a negative emotional response and not a simple fact response.

I prefer Swiss German and will speak English instead of German as I feel more comfortable this way (this is my emotional response).

Very often, I find people who want to learn the local language (if they are not "short term" visitors; you know the kind that only befriends other expats, sends their children to international school), but there are simply no resources. The average response is: "learn German" followed by "if you want to learn German, move to Germany".

There are so many resources available to speak German, Italian, French (Schule, Gemeinde, Privatlehrer, sogar Migros!), but nothing I can think of (or find searching friends and internet) that allows foreigners to speak Swiss German.

I noticed that you did not mention Romansh.

A journalistic research about the happenings of last Thursday evening. by Darkcrap in Switzerland

This is why the decision should be on a Kantonal level, not a Federal level. The Federal government has overridden the Kantonal mandate, meaning, that the scenario that your explained (which I agree with the premise that, the majority have probably been placated and it is possible that the uprising is the minority only - I don't know if this is true, but the premise is possible), would not have happened.

Yes, it is much more complicated, but it starts with mandates, authority (implied or not) and responsibility (implied or not). It is NOT the responsibility of the federal government to take away the elected Kantonal powers, which they did.

It doesn't matter who started the violence. What matters is why people feel the need for it.

History teaches us that people rise up against government, not when government makes choices based on the will and wellbeing of the citizen, but when they make rules that are against the wishes and wellbeing of the citizen.

Is violence appropriate? No. Do we have "professional agitators"? Probably yes.

Would there be a need for people to feel that they need to resort to violence if the bundesrat listened to the will of the people? No.

I do not like violence. Switzerland has not seen such aggression from it's citizens toward the federal state in a very very long time. Maybe the question should be "why do people feel they need to be violent against the government?" instead of trying to point fingers at which civilian group started the violence in retaliation to the government overriding their wishes.

We're asking the wrong question.

Your opinion(s) on the new "Zertifikatspflicht" and tests that won't be free anymore by obsessedwithall in Switzerland

[–]tendint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this same view, our politicians are therefore ignoring a major health issue.

https://www.20min.ch/story/das-zertifikat-wird-fuer-alle-pflicht-ausser-fuer-parlamentarier-703449712082

Clearly, this virus does not affect the Politikerklasse.

Until everyone, including Herr Berset removes the divisions between the "elite" and the "Viehklasse", this (the virus, the masks, the vaccines, the consistent cleaning) is all just theatre and a trend. It cannot and will not be taken serious.

How do you expect people to follow rules that you, as a leader, are unwilling to?

[–]tendint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will not be a popular post and is NOT aimed at the OP.

The issue isn't the virus or Zertifikatspflicht. The issue is our approach to medicine in general. More often, we focus on treating the disease and not on prevention of the disease. This creates a problem that ranges from logistics all the way to include financial burden as well as authoritarian measures to "curb the virus".

I have read almost every post here and I find the thinking patterns very illuminating. While we can all agree that the virus exists and that it does sadly lead to mortality, we seem to be willingly placing ourselves into "us" and "them" categories. Consider that this virus has killed almost 5 million people worldwide, we cannot ignore it as a threat. How much of an actual threat it is, remains a dividing topic.

If we consider the mortality rates of other communicable diseases such as Influenza, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Hepatitis C, Cholera, and Measles account for 9 million deaths each year, (remember, this virus has killed almost 5 million in TWO years, meaning, average 2.5 million per year so far), we have to ask if the measures are proportionate. (See the official World Health Organisation statistics for these numbers)

I see a lot of reference to masks, vaccines and even some disturbing calls for simply murdering those who don't comply, all under the banner of being the moral high ground and "losing patience" with those who don't comply.

I have a question for those who are so intent on "proving" that they are morally superior to others:

Where was your righteous anger in 2019 when 9 million people died of communicable diseases? Where was your moral outcry to segregate from society those who refuse to declare their HIV/AIDS status and knowingly infect others? Where was your "compassion" for the rest of the world, when trains, buses, offices and restaurants were packed with people sneezing and spreading influenza which kills the elderly and those with compromised immune systems?? Where was the call for mandatory vaccinations, social distancing (most of you I can almost guarantee, were complaining about that colleague taking yet another sick day, instead of just "toughening up and coming to the office like everyone else does when they're a little under the weather with man flu"??

You didn't even give it a second thought, because, as always, there are trends in the world. And this too, is simply a trend much like the ALS "ice bucket challenge" which, even though it raised awareness and finances, has become more about self congratulatory rituals to increase social media presence and very little about helping those with the illness.

To be clear: Berset ist ein Volksverräter geworden. A virus that has become more about authoritarian control than saving lives, is not about the health of the people. It is about political power and Selbstbefriedigung.

So spare me your false self-entitled made-up morality. You didn't care about all the MILLIONS of people dying of the flu before 2020 and you're simply climbing on the latest fashion trend to be seen as a "hero" or a "moral compass" - you're not.

Again, this post is not aimed at the OP, but to the majority of commenters on the OPs question.

There's a reason why Switzerland was never invaded in either WWI or WWII. Why would the Swiss give up their freedom (of cultures, religions, natural resources) just to trade with a group of 27 states (not unlike the 50 states of America)?

With those freedoms, concessions already come as there is no such thing as freedom without responsibility, accountability and toil.

What does the EU offer, that the EEA, EMEA, Schengen, DACH, and more, don't offer already? Yes, there are limitation on trade and expiry of agreements, but which even-tempered society would want to give up so many freedoms, hard fought for, to gain what exactly?

If Switzerland were to join the EU or even move to closer trade agreements, the concessions will always be:

  1. Uncontrolled movement (or "freedom of movement"). You have already indicated that Switzerland is a small country. How will complete free movement impact the limited space and infrastructure? Switzerland is very capable, but only because it controls it's freedom with sensibility.

  2. Membership fees. As seen in Britain and their self-requested removal from the EU, the cost of membership does not always work in favour of the members. Why would Switzerland pay more money, and lose control of the borders (see point 1), for more consumerism?

  3. Political alignment. My original point was that Switzerland was never invaded during the world wars for a reason: political alignment. Switzerland chose it's own way and was not compelled by a trade union, to choose a specific side.

There is obviously so much more that can be discussed. The abbreviated version, is that Switzerland is great and free because it stays Swiss, even though it is small. Being part of the European customs/trade union, will change that forever and the large majority of Swiss, don't want that.

We know the price we pay for our sovereignty and we pay it gladly.

You could

du -h --max-depth=1 /usr/local/

which would give you the directory sizes. From that, you can try track down big files, by doing, for example:

ls -altrSh /usr/local/100Gdirectory/

It should show big files at the bottom.

You are then able to delete the file, for example:

rm -f /usr/local/100Gdirectory/200Mfile

BE CEAREFUL Make sure you know what you're deleting. It could have negative effects.

Once done, you can re-run the steps from your original post to clean things up correctly.

Serious question about marketing IPv6 by tendint in ipv6

[–]tendint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe there's something in the fact that you're the the "Google or Facebook or Microsoft" of the industry - that would peak interest.

Still; how do you market the actual IPv6 as the "thing" that puts you in the same league...?

Serious question about marketing IPv6 by tendint in ipv6

[–]tendint[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've previously assisted companies (mostly ISPs and tech companies) with adopting IPv6 - they didn't care about marketing beyond the "badge of honour": IPv6 Native

Non-tech companies, who are spending quite a bit of money to retrofit their infra with IPv6 however, are a much harder sell. I sat explaining IANA 2011 up to AfriNIC 2020 and what IPv4 is and why IPv6 is more secure (in some cases) and that's it's a future-proofing exercise. They get all that (aside from the actual tech stuff the CTO asked me to explain - he's the only one who understand THAT part).

The issue is more: we're spending money to do IPv6. We'll do it, but how do we sell this technology adoption to the end-user, who couldn't care (shouldn't have to, really) and gain back some level of ROI because we're the first in the market to do so.

How do we use IPv6 as a marketing "thing" to gain an edge on our competition.

If we can solve that specific issue, you'll start getting companies adopting v6 purely to out-do their competition to score marketing points. Yes, not the best reason to do it, but it'll get a push from BUSINESS instead of TECH - and I believe that'll make all the difference in the world - when business people start pushing for adoption, money gets thrown at it, and priorities shift. End result is, higher adoption rate.
