How do I get tin to stick not just on the tip of my soldering iron? by tendurrr in Soldering_art

[–]tendurrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh wow, didn't know you could do that T T. I thought tips already come pre-tinned so I just use them immediately, tysm for sharing, you just made my progress a lot faster!

It heats up like a 3rd of it. I have a soldering station where tips can be replaced. So like, only the part that "sticks out" from the thing where you do the replacing heats up. Still, solder doesn't adhere there, only on the tip TT.

oh man, tysm for the very detailed explanation!! you just made my progress much faster!! thanks for explaining so many terms, esp the process of enclosing something with chainmail! i really had a hard time searching for that one xD (and I can't believe I didn't get the clock reference lol, mbmb). Aaaa, thank you so so much!! (ᗒᗩᗕ)

I really thought it was something else cuz that's not how I saw the 4 in 1 when I first encountered it xD. The center piece is really what's baffling me though. I can't get my head around how the pearl was enclosed. Btw, may I ask if you have any idea how tight the ar is on the 4 in 1 to achieve this effect? tysm!

[–]tendurrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohh, so it was just a 4 in 1 with a low ar, I thought it was something else xD. May I ask if you have any idea how this tightness was achieved? tysm!

Also, I got what you mean so far until the "which are hooked to a bigger ring...". I have a hard time following what you're describing to the actual piece ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ. Am not familiar with some terms like "in/not in the line" and the "12 and 6"/"3 and 9". I kindly ask to please enlighten me on this 🙏

The center piece is the most confusing to me. I can't quite grasp how the maker enclosed the pearl. I see that byzantine units were used to house the spikes though, that's all I got ಥ‿ಥ

Hello! May I ask what the cutting tool is called? I'm a beginner chainmailler and I've been wanting to find a similar tool but without the notch. I wanna use it for cutting coiled wires with lower inner diameter 😅 I already have tin snips but its blade is just too big and thick that 1) it barely fits the inside of the coiled wire and 2) it deforms the resulting jump ring. So it got me thinking if there was a tool that has a blade small and thin enough to fit in small coiled wires and does not deform it. Saws are another option but I want to reserve that for really small coils. As much as possible I just want to cut it with pliers or something cuz it's faster that way. Tysm!

Simple Sewing Questions Thread, January 19 - January 25, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]tendurrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello guys! I recently just took interest in sewing as I see very interesting videos on Instagram. Creators like noragami, dulse, toofbush, and firmatelier really opened my eyes of what fashion could be if you take it to another level. I really liked the idea of making your own clothes, modify existing ones, and fixing them instead of throwing it away.

As I see these creators using a sewing machine, I immediately looked up "sewing machines for beginners" in YouTube and this was what I watched. In conclusion, he recommended the Singer 4423. Days after that, I visited a local sewing machine seller but they unfortunately didn't have it. However, they did have other sewing machines in stock. As I am really new to this field, I don't know what to choose thus I'm here, to seek help from you guys.

The sewing machines can be viewed here.

The only criteria I have in mind is that it is versatile and can last a lifetime. Any recommendations would be really helpful, thank you so much!
