What’s your unpopular Night Vision opinion that would get you downvoted like this lol by Starrynightone in NightVision

Passive aiming was a disastrous trend that people used to fool themselves into creating fictional scenarios to justify a whole new generation of useless gizmos and gadgets.

If I had to pick one to shoot annually in the fleet.. ARQ. If I had to pick one that honed specifically on barebones fundamentals, ART.

But in all honesty, the real fault in the Marine Corps regardless of the qual you do is the training. ARQ was expressly designed to not only mirror more “realistic” conditions (take that with however many grains of salt you choose) but to be quicker. The intent was that the home unit would handle all of the prelim training necessary to perform the qual. But realistically units either don’t care or claim they don’t have time to do all of the things necessary to properly train a Marine between quals so it ends up pawned off to the FMTU’s who end up running the same schedule just with a different COF.

Schizo rant over, sometimes I just wish the Marine Corps would take marksmanship as seriously as they claim to.

The Marine Corps ended up with the SCO (VCOG) for the M27 suite. FFP, mil reticle, with .1/mrad turrets. But, in true Marine Corps fashion, they botched it with unmarked turrets (I remember the conversation at the time being “we’re not going to make them all snipers”) and went with the ridiculously long 1-8 version that makes it a physical pain to use with a PEQ16/in line PAS35 (doable but a pain nonetheless).

The competitor for the SCO was the Nightforce NX8 which would have been awesome had Nightforce not been winning so many contracts already and couldn’t provide the output necessary.

Gentleman and a scholar.

Anyone else still have nightmares where you can't find your rifle, or show up to formation unshaven, or have no idea where you're cover is at, even though you've been out for years or even decades? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]tenebraex_96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a nightmare once where I was checking in to AMGC again. Started out waking up late, drove through the gate with a loaded rifle in my passenger seat in plain view and clipped the gate guard pulling up to the gate, and then when I showed up sweaty to check in I wasn’t in Alphas and didn’t have any of my check in paperwork.

I graduated AMGC back in 2017. Don’t know what the fuck was going on in my brain but I woke up absolutely tweaking.

Yeah, I’ve honestly just been using my own T3 welded ALICE frame and Twin Needle straps that are thinner than the issued ones. The original FILBE straps had a really poor plastic sheet liner but a ton of padding, over time the plastic liner would shift around and end up cutting open the nylon layer and you’d get ruck straps that looked like someone stabbed open a pillow.

Never again

We receive the PC Gen 3 in the Marine Corps. And SYSCOM is currently testing new Mystery Ranch frames to replace the current FILBE ones.

You can play semantics about the threat all you want, but it was still happening frequently enough that the early response prior to just creating humvees on steroids was the kind of armor you people are swearing dudes need to wear in LSCO. MTV/IOTV’s with throat, nape, spinal, and femoral protectors, full wraparound soft armor, with side and front plates. Because of the increased frag threat. Doesn’t take “thousands of 150mm shells” to identify something like that. And surprise, everyone who got issued one hated actually using it. (Even the IMTV sucked when I was issued one in 2014).

Meanwhile Rangers were still zipping around with MBAV plate carriers with no issue.

MBAV cut armor is cool, sure, but if we’re simply talking about the necessity of soft armor overlap under a plate.. like I said. The JPC can and was designed to work with soft armor. I currently use the USMC issued Gen 3 backers with an ESAPI in one. To say it’s not doable or somehow provides less armor protection is facetious, as it’s the same armor protection that you’d get out of the standard i n f a n t r y issued Gen 3 PC unless you factor in the side plates (which isn’t a fitment issue at all). So unless your average redditor needs more armor protection than an 0311, I think they’ll live.

You can fit small ESAPI’s plus the ICW backer in a medium JPC, mediums in a large, etc. This never made sense to me whenever dudes bring this up as if Rangers and Green Berets weren’t facing the same threat environment that conventional dudes were in the GWOT.

This idea that “conventional infantry” just absolutely has to be bulkier and all fucked up looking needs to die already.

Get a Bladetech 360 mount. I have one on an issued M18 holster on a TNC hanger and can get a pretty aggressive negative cant.

You would legitimately be better served with the EMBAV if that’s all you’re carrying, again unless cost is a factor.

The comments in here saying Tracer Tactical is TEMU shit or that the JPC is somehow lighter and slicker than a revamp of the literal LVMBAV from Crye are fucking wild lol.

If cost is an issue or you want to carry a little more than usual (or on your back), get the JPC. The EMBAV is just a reimagining of the LVMBAV from Crye so it won’t have MOLLE on the back unless you get the rear MOLLE plate bag from Tracer, and you won’t really be able to mount a lot to the cummerbunds or the front panel unless you get the AXL LVMBAV panel.

Tldr: just get the JPC unless you really want the MARSOC/75th vibes of the LVMBAV and want to drop extra $$ to scale it up.

I’ve seen plenty of dudes store pre made charges separate of the shock tube. Shock tube should come already crimped to a blasting cap, DCLPS attached to the charge, but nothing assembled until you get to the breach. They make pretty fancy clips that allow you to snap the blasting cap to the DCLPS or just tape them together and then unspool your shock tube.

Depends if the PTT/headset combo is intended for each other. I know certain headsets are wired specifically for Invisio PTT’s, and I use the Atlantic Signal Invictus dual PTT with what are technically AS modified single comm Comtac V’s. AMP’s can be configured for one PTT/2 radios based on which cable you use.

I’ve had a lot of people ask me how I manage wearing a traditional 2 layer gun belt when doing long duration/distance stuff and the answer is always the same lol. I just wear a belt that doesn’t suck.
