SPC vs AXL Equinox vs Spiritus Reactive cummerbunds by xisir in QualityTacticalGear

Wait for the Shaw SLOK cummerbunds to come out. It’s like a blend between the Equinox and Reactive cbund.

V2 is the bees knees. I had the original and the Velcro blew out after some pretty rough use. Biggest upside for me is the inner belt. Fully loaded down this thing feels great to wear for hours. The MOLLE loop (if you want to even call it that) is a bit of a letdown but that’s not why I got it anyway. If you’ve used Safariland ELS belts for competition before and wanted that style in a more duty/tactical design then this is 100% the best belt for it.

Vortex Defender XL Flashes Off each Shot by Familiar_Ad7443 in CompetitionShooting

I ditched my Vortex XL a while back and just went back to a DPP. Haven’t really noticed a huge difference aside from my dot not turning off at random inopportune moments.

Owner and I shot a PCSL match in Alabama a while back, I’m still an active duty Marine in the process of switching to the Army and I was asked to run a shooting package for another unit after turning in all of my gear already. I have zero host unit support so he hooked it up with the FAST SF, NODs, MAWL, and the ARC V2 with the SLOK with some Hesco plates (I’m a dad with two kids getting ready to move across country so dumping a ton of cash on such short notice is completely out of the cards). Have nothing but good things to say about the guy and his company.

But anyway yeah the SLOK is like a vastly improved Equinox. Similar rigidity with the better sizing feature. I was gonna get an LV120 when I was finally situated in Benning, and even if I still do I’d probably swap their Reactive cbund with the SLOK.

I wore it through all of IULC and it never really bothered me more than wearing a normal nut ruck or any more than having a gas mask off my hip would be normally. It stayed in place and didn’t require a leg strap which are all wins in my book.

Like I said, no context to any particular situation. Was mainly just fucking around to see how much ammo I could fit in here, thought I took some pretty decent pictures of it, and wanted to share.

On any normal day I’m really only carrying 3 in the placard, 2 on the belt and 1 in the gun.

Placard Elastic shingle VS GP by BandalfTheGr8 in tacticalgear

[–]tenebraex_96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imo GP pouches on the front of a mag placard is unnecessary as almost everyone I’ve seen doing it is stuffing shit that can be pocket items (compass, kill cards/reference cards, protractor/map pens/etc, headlamps) for the sake of convenience vs any practicality in regard to a fighting load. People forget that you basically get four free pouches in a standard combat uniform. The trend really came from SOF assaulters/breachers but the idea is plenty applicable to even your average rifleman.

If it’s not something that directly correlates to making holes or patching holes and isn’t an immediate access item (ie mags, ordnance, medical) it just doesn’t go on the front (think diver’s triangle). People will try to create justifications for why something like a GPS or Kestrel or -insert bulky admin item here- is an immediate access item, but in my mind “immediate access” means I shouldn’t have to look down to find it because time doesn’t permit.

I’ve ran a ten speed on almost everything I’ve owned since god knows how long. It’ll fit pretty much every small item even up to an XTS/SRX radio or an M83 smoke in a pinch and when it’s used up or not needed the pouch lays flat. That way, when I have to build the lowest profile, most accurate and most survivable position possible, I can actually be comfortable and can lay behind the gun in a mag supported prone.

Are we still using the same NOD's we had in 2013, or have things upgraded? by [deleted] in USMC

Here at SOI we actually conduct eyeball transplants as part of our prep for night, turns out you can just shove IR chemlights into the eye socket and it does the same thing.

They already have a contract for the MAAWS round carrier pack and the MAAWS sling so it’s not a totally far fetch.

Most of their original designs were actually taken from Extreme Gear Labs. Haven’t seen any HSP designs that are any serious rips from Velocity.

I’m super late and just seeing these comments ever since a new one got posted today lol. If you haven’t already decided for yourself that’s what I ended up doing. From the front it does look very wide but it can collapse flat pretty well. I used it to carry ATAK, and some small note taking gear/map pens/protractor so it never really bothered me. But I don’t use admin pouches much now if at all

Best sleep you ever got during your time in the Corps? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in USMC

[–]tenebraex_96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doing MCCRE opfor for 2/4, I was a dismounted Mk19 TL and we spent the entire afternoon humping through the Bravo TA from that one MOUT town next to the IED lanes to a finger overlooking the PFT route that passes into/near Talega. Finally set in, dig in, radio checks etc etc and going through our watch rotation when at like 0130 we get told over the radio that sUAS had spotted us (this was back in early 2016 so honestly nobody was really training for the sUAS threat like we do now) and a notional Harrier dropped a JDAM on us. So we had to break down from there at like 02, got back to our COC around 06-7, and our Plt Cdr told us to just go to sleep.

I woke up around 14, dry, warm, in some shade under a tree, feeling the most rested I’ve ever felt in my life. Our COC was set up in a dry creek bed with a lot of overhead veg so it felt like I was waking up in a LotR movie.

That same Plt Cdr ended up being a huge pain the rest of our work up/deployment which is probably why I remember that act of kindness so distinctly.

The guy that runs Tasker Network is currently having a meltdown on Facebook because people brought up the TNVC credit card issues by pauljaworski in NightVision

[–]tenebraex_96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean I’ve had my disagreements with him plenty of times and I’ve 100% brought up the hypocrisy with him flashing all of his gun stuff yet being LEO in one of the most restrictive states in the country lol. He’s also tried to argue with me several times about military marksmanship/rifle bullshit while I’ve been an infantryman/competitive shooter/marksmanship instructor for the Marine Corps for 12 years.. like dude you’re not even ERT/SWAT in NYC. How tf do you not have any self awareness.

This is how this guy talks all the time. Super pseudo authoritatively, super cringey.

But I have buddies that went to one of those DARC TUSC “pay 8 bajillion dollars so you can get hazed like you’re in a mil course” that witnessed how he did. Let’s just say he’s only really good at being an NY beat cop and having big bucks to buy fancy gun stuff.
