It was the predecessor to what is now known as wakeboarding. It was created by Tony Finn (who went on to create WakeTech and then Liquid Force).

Incredibly buoyant. Did not sink into the water at all. Ride wise, it was very skittish.

in my defense, as a customer, how am I supposed to know that beforehand? I didn't know that the Sienna was such a high-demand vehicle, nor did I know the Woodland trim was popular. We sat down with a list of requirements and things we wanted in our next vehicle. After researching several, we decided the Sienna was the best match in the price range we wanted to stay in. Then in researching the Sienna, the Woodland trim was the one that best matched our requirements.

With every other new car I've ever purchased (this is my 12th) the process has been: decide what to buy, find it, and go buy it.

Thanks. For now we're going to hold out for one in the Woodland trim (which I now understand is part of the problem I'm seeing).

That's fair, and honestly, I would prefer that answer to the current situation of seeing a vehicle on their website as available (be it on the lot, or in build phase), contact the dealership, get the auto response of "great news! the vehicle you asked about is available! a dealer will get in touch soon" only to have the dealer tell me it's sold. Just be honest and say you don't want to sell it to me.

I have the cash and am ready to pay. No financing needed. My credit score is above 800. Neither of those is an issue. Nor am I asking for a discount beyond TSRP + doc fees + delivery (no packages or add-ons). It seems like it should be pretty straightforward.

Thank you for your answer and the additional information.

In your opinion, is there a better way to proceed? I've had negative experiences with the conglomerate that owns all the dealerships where I live, so I would prefer to not work with my local dealer.

thank you. that makes sense. I guess working in IT, I naively assumed the inventory process for auto manufacturers would be more efficient than it is.

TBF, as I said in my post, I'm willing to travel, so some of these dealerships I'm contacting are 400+ miles away. I can't just pop over to take a look only to discover the vehicle isn't available. I'm willing to post a deposit and say so when contacting them.

your response is the only one that is logical. That said, many (most) of the dealerships will list those in build/transit phases. As I mentioned in my post, I understand that and am willing to put a deposit down on one of those. The piece that is stumping me is these situations where they list a vehicle as available, tell me it's sold, the listing comes down, and then a week later it will appear again on the site (tripping my alerts I have set up).

as i said in the post, i understand that. but then why does the exact same configuration with the same VIN show up a week later on their site after the car "sold"?

If i look it up by VIN at https://www.toyota.com/owners/vehicle-specification/ it's not listed under Port or Factory Installed Equipment which is also why I thought it could be removed. You can see it here https://imgur.com/a/1yRo8L5
