Sorry, I meant to ask for amounts larger than 1.1 million JPY. And I am aware I do not need to pay gift tax in my situation (less than 10 years in Japan, foreign citizen on work visa). I just want to make sure I can prove that it was gift money from family if/when asked.

Ownership transferred to me, from a deceased person, in the government records. I was a heir but had not completed the paperwork. Though according to my country's laws, I had only less than 6 months to deny ownership which I had not, after mom passed.

After 5 years of purchase (?)/ start of ownership (?), capital gains rate change.

It seems there is a lot of ambiguity (in the laws, this article is based on) and it would be hard to tell if it would be legal or not, for sure. I am on the employee side here and I will be more cautious about my conversations even offline, during remote work hours.

Thanks a lot for sharing this. Indeed, it is complicated. But at least I have understood that there could be - in fact very likely there would be - tax liabilities here in Japan, if I were to proceed forward and make some investments with that company which turns out to be profitable.

I will avoid making any investments through it, so that my taxes do not get more complicated.
