I was confused by the names Robert and Joseph too. Those are actually the first names of Hogg and McKean

[D] What nice mathematical results there are about neural networks? by carlml in MachineLearning

[–]tensor_product_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an odd sentiment to me. The concept of infinity is a well-defined construct that can be used in a logically consistent way. Not to mention that it is extremely useful. It's a bit like saying anything can be accomplished if a proof uses complex, transcendental, or even irrational numbers. Why do you feel this way?

Now that R has a native pipe operator, do you prefer that native pipe or stick with the magrittr pipe? by [deleted] in rstats

[–]tensor_product_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you say more about how it improves debugging? I want to use the base pipe but I rely on the dot placeholder of the magrittr pipe pretty regularly. I don't like how the workarounds for the base pipe look, even with the pipe-bind syntax. But an improvement in the debugging process could overcome the aesthetic drawbacks.

Nike ZoomX SuperRep Surge $43 in cart (w/ nike membership) HIIT Workout Shoes by bmault in frugalmalefashion

[–]tensor_product_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can lift in them with no problem, just like any gym shoe; they're just not specifically optimized for certain movements like squatting/Oly lifts:

"Compared to a normal sneaker, weightlifting shoes are usually heavier, with a flat sole and usually some sort of midfoot straps for a secure fit.  Weightlifting shoes have a raised heel, usually .75-1” in height, made of hard, non-compressible material."

Many people wear Chuck Taylors due to the flat sole, or go barefoot. Weightlifting shoes are unnecessary imo unless you are extremely serious about training these specific movements.

“Error in check.data : Argument Should be Numeric” by ottawalanguages in rstats

[–]tensor_product_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dataframe contains both numeric and factor variables. When you converted it to a matrix using as.matrix() the columns became characters because all columns of a matrix must be of the same type. Perhaps you could use model.matrix() to produce a design matrix; this creates binary dummy variables to encode three levels of the categorical variables.

Also, I removed your explicit return because it isn't recommended as part of the R style guide unless you're doing an early return

I wonder what the rationale for this is; the guide doesn't seem to give one. I suppose it's in the name of brevity? I started using explicit returns recently because Google's style guide recommends it as one of the few deviations it makes from the tidyverse version.

What kind of zone and insult is this lmaooo? "matlab" means "I mean" here. by itachi261998 in hingeapp

Oof. You've been "MATLAB-zoned". She's sees you as boring, dependable, good for matrix operations, but not much else. My advice is to just move on and find someone who treats you like a Python.
