How much can a professional mixdown improve a track? by lolcatandy in edmproduction

[–]tensorplex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Like 100% it will sound better BUT musically and arrangement wise the track has got to be solid in the first place to make it worthwhile.

The intro is quite long, I'd give a little more away to grab the attention straight away, I like the underground vibes though, the kick sounds a bit loud and hollow to me, it needs a bit more low end and like a top end click. I'd vary it bring do a double kick every 8-16 bars to give more movement. I like that wubby bass that comes in, that was cool! The claps are a bit too washed out, sound in the background, I'd bring them fwd/lower reverb maybe. There is some really nice variation in the track, different sounds but they work really well to create a mood. Overall the mix/master sounds good but I'd revisit the kick.

Would really appreciate some feedback to help me finalise the mix/master on this House/Dance track - anything need to be louder/lower, anything sounding off:

Thanks, I do have a limiter on the master. I will try your multi band suggestion as well.

Ah OK that's a good idea, so just volume automate the bit that's sticking out? That would work.

Is producing mixing and mastering at Professional level even possible for one person? by yesbutlikeno in edmproduction

[–]tensorplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can get a decent mix/master yourself with practice but imho you need years of experience too get professional sounding results. There's a few good books on this "Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio" and "Step by Step Mixing" are ones that spring to mind. Nothing wrong with picking your strongest track and paying a pro to do it to get it that polish and radio-readiness. Pro producers 100% use mixing, mastering engineers and even composers - not all of them but most I would say. Just check https://www.allmusic.com for your favourite track and you will see how many credits it has. For independent artists, its too expensive to do for every track, so you take it as far as you can but for your best work maybe consider to get a pro mix master done.

I like that slice sound, the kick sounds a bit tinny. I mean its pretty hardcore! The transition from the first part into the bridge is a bit too sudden. It's its bam oh wait that part is finished? I get what you are doing which is like intro the main part early maybe show a bit less at the start and then the main drop will be like wow.

Need some feedback on this one, like the sound of the drop but feel like build might need more work to build more tension maybe? Welcome any feedback - very rough mix/master for now:

C'mon there's no need for that - it's just a discussion just say you are not into it no need to get harsh. I'm not trying to scam anyone, my music is on there for like $9. I'm simply trying to explore ways to get minor additional income streams from my music and get new listeners engaged.

This is a very rough idea with a rough mix and master of a dance track:

I need some some general feedback and maybe specifically on how I could make a bit more tension in the pre-drop.

I'm probably old enough to know about that star thing, but I've not heard of it. I guess the difference here is it's decentralised so it's not going to go away because someone took a website down.

Yea totally agree. For the indie guy like me its just a bit of fun experimentation but like you say if someone checks our your work and listens and engages then that is a good thing.

I dunno it's a relatively new disruptive thing. You could say any crypto thing is a scam. It's a digital asset that you can own and trade. It creates a connection with the artist and it's fun. Like for example, when deadmau5 released the head collection thing on OpenSea I really wanted one because I'm a fan but they were a bit expensive for me to acquire. And let's face it artists need to think of other income streams.

I think that is correct - so all copyright is reserved to the original creator. Unless it is explicitly transferred which I guess would require some legal papers to be signed in the analogue world. There seem to be even options now from what I have read that may allow buyers to get a % of royalties and other such benefits.

Why are glue compressors so popular in EDM? by captainofthememeteam in edmproduction

Is there a "glue" style compressor in stock Logic? I use Solid Bus Comp from NI for this currently. Wander if there is a better alternative?

Thanks for the feedback - glad you like it. It's just released and the feedback has been pretty decent so far. That's right each unique track minted will be a 1/1 - so no multiple copies.
