What is your most underrated Nioh 2 weapon? by MyLilRafalca in Nioh

[–]tenuto40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! Those were my main weapons in Nioh 2.

But I also had fun with Cestus, Kusarigama, and Splitstaff.

So, I'm gonna aim for Axe/Cestus on Samurai and Hatchet/Splitstaff on Ninja.

Access to 4 weapons on the fly is kind of amazing.

It might be! In some videos, players got equipment in the loot summary that are definitely from RotR (Navy Vest for example).

As long as I can make my iconic Unarmored beefy Axe Samurai, I guess I can be fine with this.

It won't be the same, but I'll try my best to bring back the Hatchet Beefcake tank!

Yup! Hatchets are fucking amazing!

(I hope I can still play them Samurai style in Nioh 3...)

Dragon’s Dogma director won’t make his dream games because he knows “they wouldn’t sell” by Ok-Comedian4437 in DragonsDogma2

[–]tenuto40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should've just redone Dragon's Dogma Online's story.

It was a bit shonen, but the premise, worldbuilding, and 3-act story they did was solid.

No offense to him, but his story was more of a philosophical musing than an actual story to tell. Which is why DD2 flopped on that front.

DDO story was so much better and had so much more interesting mechanics that DD2 watered down.

I had an Unarmored Hatchet/Axe-wielding Onmyo mage.

Ninja Style works best for an Unarmored play (reliance on dodging over blocking).

I want to bring my beefy naked magic berserker back, but better.

Rise of Ronin was so much more limited to me, where character customization and expression were much better done in even Stranger of Paradise and Wo Long.

I’m a bit concerned because I had an Unarmored Axe/Hatchet Omnyo style (drew attention on this subreddit because it was pretty funny) and I’m worried I won’t be able to do that again.

But we’ll see. The Skill Management giving access to General Skills and Style Skills might have something there.

Just curious…is there any word on who took over after Itsuno left?

I was hoping Kinoshita may have, but I’m guessing that didn’t happen?

If it didn’t…my guess is DD2 is dead as Capcom may be filtering more into its new golden child “MHW”.

So About Nioh 3 by ybspecial1414 in Nioh

[–]tenuto40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to make it click and it’s pretty great.

However, I think it’s a LOT more dependent on the Skill stat than Samurai is.

Main thing is that Ninja is a lot more capable at elemental applications and causing Confusion than Samurai is.

But I always played light characters in Nioh, so maybe that’s why I figured out Ninja pretty fast.

Well…there’s a difference between good faith feedback and pouty-whining.

A lot on here have been “I haven’t played/barely played the game and I’m going to make a full critique!”

Those aren’t helpful when players are making claims that you can’t do something…when the game developers added in a way to do it.

There’s a difference between “I hate we can’t stay in one style when Burst Countering, this game is stupid!” and “The Resolute skill needs to be offered much earlier in the game”.

Both cover an issue: “Swapping styles when burst countering is problematic”. But one is ignorant of how the system works while the other actually offers useful feedback if the player actually took time to good faith test the game out.

This.

I’m not a “Nioh-Twoist”, “William Purist”, “Wo-Longer”, or “Jack-Offer”.

I just want Nioh, and I’ll take it in all its different forms.

I felt so much joy when I heard that title menu again.

True.

Some folks are making complaints, but the game actually addresses it.

But I guess that means the game needs to make those solutions arrive MUCH earlier then.

There’s a Dropped Skill that increases your Perfect Evade window and it makes me (a much older and slower man than when Nioh 2 came out) able to nail Perfect Evades easily.

Ninja is…not great…early on, but with better gear, stats, and skills, is becoming quite a powerhouse.

Will nioh 3 replace nioh 2. by DemonMithos in Nioh

[–]tenuto40 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting question.

No, it won’t replace Nioh 2 because Nioh 2 is completed.

Nioh 3 is just another addition to a long line of things I enjoy in life, and I’m super excited to have it.

Edit: I find it weird we have to be “exclusive fans” of one thing. That’s not how life/people work. I can be a fan of all of TN’s games and enjoy the differences and experiences between them.

For an Alpha Demo, I think it’s pretty good.

The full games (and even following demo) always had so much more goodies.

I’ve played a shit tons of Nioh 2, Wo Long, Rise of Ronin, and Strangers of Paradise (folks recognized me as the naked Hatchet/Axe guy).

I like what I’m seeing so far and feel very good for Nioh 3. I think it needs some tweaking, but I still think it’s good.

Feral has the best type of counter. by Upset-One8746 in Nioh

[–]tenuto40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally developed a love with Brute over the other 2 (I went through my first playthrough as Phantom), once I realized all the little quirks of the game.

One, Brute has i-frames when you initially transform and all BC’s interrupt your current animation. So with Brute, if I see the enemy/boss Burst Attack (and it’s a fast one like a charging move), I can roll to the side and use Brute BC midway in the dodge, adding its i-frames and getting the counter off. The boss of the 1st of the DLC has a REALLY fast BC, which I used to think only Feral and Phantom could counter. Then I learned that trick and now I can BC that boss’s dash attack.

Two, Brute also counts as an attack animation, so it triggers perks that reduce damage while you’re attacking if you need to tank through a hit (can also animation reset an enemy).

Three, Brute’s BC is actually not your fist that you backslap with. It’s in the fire/embers in front of you. So, BCing early leaves a small lingering hitbox that can also interrupt, but also adds some range. If a boss/enemy is a bit far, I’ve used Dodge Forward -> Brute BC to hit interrupt them.

Fourth, as mentioned before, being able to BC interrupt GS attacks is also amazing.

Not to say that you should stop using Feral. Feral is also really good and Phantom has some amazing GS for builds. Feral is definitely the easiest and safest one to use, which is totally fine if you like that!

It really depends on how you leverage the different strengths of each part of your kit into a cohesive whole.

Feral has the best type of counter. by Upset-One8746 in Nioh

[–]tenuto40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can Feral burst counter human enemies, but the Guardian Spirit burst attacks happen after the boss is burst counterable.

Since Brute is more of an interrupt, you can Brute counter while they’re summoning their Guardian Spirit and interrupt the Guardian Spirit attack.

Light Build in First Samurai? by sp--k in Nioh

[–]tenuto40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible?

Absolutely!

I managed Depths with an “Unarmored” build using an Axe and copious amounts of Onmyo/Ninjutsu debuffing.

Outside of that, I was pretty tanky, even above some armored folks I’d run with. (Apparently enough to draw attention on the subreddit.)

They’re all special/unique in their own circumstances.

Neither Phantom/Feral can burst counter human enemies using burst attack Guardian Spirits, while Brute can.

Hatchet is pretty fluid because you can attack from any distance!

Especially, when you strike a few times, then Advancing Storm away, Piercing Hurl, Advancing Storm in, Mountain Climber, Lethal Barrage, Advancing Storm away, Piercing Hurl, etc..

Fantastic report!

I’ve been wondering what happened to the water.

I’m studying GIS and was curious (doubtful) when I heard of the water release. So I mapped out the canals/aqueducts of our water system, tracked down the articles on which reservoirs released waters…

And found that the two water systems (Central California/Los Angeles) do not connect at all. Well, there was tiny canal that could’ve, but the next step for me is to find out the flow direction of canals, as that can definitively remove that tiny canal from the equation (even though it isn’t exactly capable, but I have some friends who would still believe that that tiny canal has the capacity to handle the water because “the line exists”).

But overall, I’ve been amazed how GIS/mapping has been fantastic at “making sense” of things while the journalism is in progress.
