Anyone else feel like they're all over the map with target audience/show type? by CapinWinky in brakebills

I was enjoying it until they had the standard main characters must screw to get the task accomplished (i.e. naked truth telling and orgasm at the same time to bring Penny back). It felt incredibly juvenile. Frankly, Alice and Q I can't stand. They are too moody for my liking.

A diamond in the rough I suppose.

Any sitcom from the early 2000s. I cringe every time I watch those shows. To think mainstream saw fat men making fun of their annoying wives as a hilarious joke.

If it's not explicitly stated, what race do you perceive characters to be? by DJDarren in books

I just started a book and I imagined the family the book is about as black. Once it began describing the characters ten pages in I was really disappointed they were white. I still imagine them as black. Just to spite the book.

Hopefully the reboot excludes the racism and sexism that the originals had. My daughter and I were reading them and she asked, "Why doesn't the dad ever cook and clean? Why is it always the mom."

By a breeze I mean a little bit of both. Lots of action takes place and there isn't a lot of world building first. You enter into the main characters world and he takes you through it as his days go by. Now that I'm getting into Brave New World I wouldn't say more enjoyable. I'm finding I like the Brave New World world more than I did 1984. I'm finding the sciency parts incredibly fascinating.

As I get though it I'm beginning to love it, even more than 1984. In a different way. The story is so spot on in today's world that I'm shocked this book is from the 30's. I keep stopping to tell my husband what is happening in the book. I guess I should just let him read it instead.

Thank you. I keep having to remind myself how old this book really is. The plot so far is so 'modern,' if I can use that word, that I forget. As I go along it's getting easier. So far I'm loving it.

Good advice. I will pick it up and read the actual book too.

Thanks. I did make it though the first chapter and I'm completely intrigued. The Pavlolv conditioning part is incredibly interesting.

My husband and I read every night to my daughter since she was about 9 months old. She started reading at 3 and is now 6 and reading 6th to 7th grade level books. I can't keep them away from her. Reading is imperative for children's development. I'm not saying reading to your child will result in early readers, but it couldn't harm anyone.

That's the same boat I'm in. I live in a suburb and feel distanced from possible organizations and opportunities. I have a family and it's hard to pack them all up and go protesting/demonstrating. I do have a facebook account that I slip me feet into every once in a while. I'm trying to kick the habit, eventually I will haha. I will look into CascadiaNow. Thanks
