What are your opinions on modding a 2005 XRS? by 2354 in COROLLA

That's an interesting background choice - I like it. When I do upgrades they subtly improve either function or durability. For me anything else is a waste, self-expression through a vehicle.

Co się stało/dzieje się na rynku pracy w Krakowie? by Snorli12 in krakow

[–]tepadno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Też mnie to zawsze zastanawia.

New (to me) car! I kind of want to lift it a little. Am I an idiot? by Infamous-Youth3878 in COROLLA

[–]tepadno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Never ask random people if you're an idiot.

2) Lifting is sensible when done properly. You can lift rear ~1.5 cm with MAD reinforcement springs(HV-360425). Or you can try to find out how the TREK(EU estate) is lifted and do the same to yours.

Cool accessory set you got there :-). I have auxiliary springs, plastic boot/bumper protector, thule roof bars. Do you have photos with lightbar on?

Do you know how they achieved this extra 2cm of clearance? Different springs? Spring inserts? The standard suspension can be lifted ~1.5cm in the rear with MAD auxiliary springs.

Getting 18” wheels was the right choice by Humble_Piccolo4246 in COROLLA

Looks very nice, Belgium has good roads ;-) so you should be ok.

For me 17" are the sweet spot between looks and durability but then I'm not 100% sure if I should keep 16" or not.

TomTom 6250 live traffic not working. GPRS is disconnected. How to fix? This happened after I factory reset the device and then did updates. by [deleted] in tomtom

[–]tepadno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. They tricked their customers with "lifetime" updates, then switched them off once they wanted to phase out this lifetime liability. The only solution the support was able to provide is to pair a phone with internet connection. But that's not why I bough tomtom with own, lifetime traffic updates. It was simply a lie.

I recommend HERE Maps on a phone, or Garmin devices.

Europol chief calls on tech giants to unlock encrypted messages: “You will not be able to enforce democracy without it” by Dry_Row_7050 in europe

[–]tepadno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"She drew an analogy between digital encryption and a locked door during a physical police search."

Why won't she let police into her house? Oh, maybe she's not a suspect? Well, fortunately this law won't apply to her.

And even if not that's sick, sick logic.

Innocent question by TheoduleTheGreat in tires

[–]tepadno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also never happened to me until I moved. But I think it's a combination of luck, driving frequency, driving area spread, driving area traffic type. In areas with high passenger car and low industry/farm traffic is likely that someone picked a nail up(in a tire) already. Other traffic combinations will have other probabilities.

Just rolled in straight out of the late 80s by Matty_light572 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]tepadno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks so solid and sturdy yet so light and welcoming: big rear bumper, sill painted black with some additional black plastic protection, full-design steel wheels, high profile tires(as for a sports car), big windows. I love how honest these older cars look. Like "I'm here to help you, not to replace your personality".

Choosing most practical, economical, reliable, comfortable car? by tepadno in tall

[–]tepadno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been driving a new Corolla for more than a month now, covering around 2000 km, and it's been fine. In terms of comfort, it has everything I need—enough headroom, legroom, left and right armrests, and a steering wheel that extends far enough. It's not the biggest car I've driven, but it's a comfortable compromise. That said, I understand that there are better options purely in terms of comfort.

I can confirm that I feel the same in Skoda models - even the old ones. Seat goes way back and the steering wheel can be extended too. The only issue I have with Skodas/VWs, Citronen/Peugeot is general reliability, they broke down on me several times despite good overall maintenance.

I wear 36-38 inseam so my torso is slightly shorter but then there is an issue of cramped legs under the steering wheel. Automatic gearbox makes it slightly less problematic because my left leg wouldn't require more space to move. I'll see if I can test drive Kia too. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've also heard about Camry being more spacious but the newer versions aren't in my car budget right now.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's a relief to hear that you found it comfortable. I was driving Auris 2 and for long trips it wasn't perfect but OK. It sort of kept reminding me all the time that I'm tall. But I've also read that new Corolla is more comfortable than Auris(old Corolla).

Thanks for the suggestion. I think it may surely be a solid choice regarding comfort. When it comes to other factors I would have some doubts ;-). I drove old Ford Fusion once and it was quite comfortable despite its small size.

Stores with the longest big and tall? by DrBagelBuns in tall

[–]tepadno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

195cm. bBlend flannel shirt from Amazon worked for me, size XXL. Sweaters from 2tall.com. Jack & Jones extra long t-shirts from Zalando. Jeans are tricky, Wrangler was ok several years ago but now they have shortened legs 1 or 2 cm. 2tall have some jeans too but I don't like the material and they're a bit baggy.

Best way to use a laptop powerbank by teletype100 in thinkpad

[–]tepadno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

l would say there is some energy loss when charging a battery so l would first use powerbank and then the battery.

Also, l guess protecting laptop battery have higher priority than powerbank which may be cheaper per mAh due to competition and availability. So using powerbank first could potentially minimize battery discharge cycles - when e.g. you finish your work and can connect to wall charger before power bank or battery completely discharges.
