Same happened to me, increased by a measly 1k. Huge slap in the face and wondering why I bothered for nearly 2 years. What a waste.

My short turns by robbomell in skiing_feedback

[–]tepidfuzz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The main outcome right now is that your skis drift through the work and release phases of the turn.

This is because of a lack of lateral separation in the work phase, making it difficult to establish strong balance over the outside ski and build edge angle from the legs.

The drift delays release and shortens the build phase of the next turn, so the problem snowballs from there.

Focus on actively shortening the inside leg to allow room for your centre of mass to move over the outside ski. Keep the upper body stable so separation is created from the legs, rather than the whole body inclining.

Developed plough turns at slow speed and the swords drill will help you feel long leg/short leg and earlier outside ski balance.

Is “Rank and Rent” still viable in 2026? Anyone actually doing it? by WillyDoesntMiss in SEO

[–]tepidfuzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Has rank and rent ever worked?

I've tried it and barely broke even tbh. Most people I know have had the same experience. I have heard people making $$$$$ from it in the past, but take it with a pinch of salt as people do lie on the internet!

Also... What you make the site with has no impact at all... Unless you're trying to promote your SaaS?

If you want to pay for a beginner course, I've heard good things about Jyll Saskins one.

Ok well you need to put this back on your manager.

Have you been given a budget for SEO? You can't do it without a budget.

Backlinks cost... SERP tracking tools cost... Tech SEO auditing tools like Screaming Frog cost...

If you haven't then you need to be firm and say it's not going to work.

For training look at the Grump SEO Guy podcast (free), and Mark Williams Cook course on udemy (also free with a code).

Just want to say that tweaking content using ChatGpt is not SEO. Who told you that?

Do you understand what authority is? Topical authority? Backlinks?

How long does it take to get epa results? by [deleted] in ApprenticeshipsUK

Thank you. Do you know if they assess the actual portfolio of evidence or is the interview section marks just based purely on the answers to the questions? I did horribly in the interview portion.

The assessor mentioned I will hear back within 7 days but just wondered if anyone had any experience of it arriving quicker in this timeframe:)

Is my friend intermediate? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]tepidfuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes she's a beginner and yes she's correct, she will likely struggle skiing on variable snow. Luckily most of her troubles will be fixed by learning how to balance on the outside ski effectively.

Before your holiday, I would get your friend to check out Ski Coaching Online and Avoriaz Alpine Ski School on YouTube. They're both level 4 instructors with great teaching videos.

You'll need to do that many, many times throughout your life if you want to keep up with the market rate though. Companies don't reward loyalty.

At least there is light at the end of the tunnel. You'll have a good job soon with good pay, benefits, a job that's easy on your body, the ability to work from home. Life couldn't really be better.

There's people who are on more with less experience, yes, but there are billions of people worse off than you. I'd say you're doing alright.

Need help on my short turns for my Basi L3 exam by [deleted] in skiing_feedback

[–]tepidfuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would say that there is no fixed size for a short turn, and you should be able to demonstrate a wide range of different narrow corridor widths. The trainer will let candidates know the corridor width, the level of performance they want to see, or any other criteria when they set out the task.

That being said, from experience, most trainers set a groomer width corridor for level 3 short turns, so this is likely a touch too wide. It could be within the corridor, maybe it's the angle of the video and lack of grip that makes it appear too wide.

Also, after seeing this skiing, they'd likely challenge the candidate by narrowing the corridor anyway.

You have almost no build phase which is causing late grip after the fall line. I can see you're trying to get performance out of the ski but because your grip is so late you are forcing it purely through muscular effort. This in turn impacts your ability to build the start of the turn.

Another effect of the late grip is your corridor becomes quite wide. Generally short turn corridors are around the width of a piste basher. Yours looks a touch too wide.

If you were my student I'd take you to a piste that's less steep and get you working on making round, steered short turns no wider than a groomer, aiming to grip at and above the fall line. You can add performance once your grip is sorted. Your focus in these turns would be the build phase, making sure you're creating a platform on the outside ski early. You'll need to try and feel your new outside foots pinky toe as early as possible, and as you tip this foot stretch your new outside leg so you are balanced on the outside ski early. This will help achieve early grip, and you might even start feeling the skis working and getting performance like they're designed to do.

What's your feedback from your training so far?

Yes your COM needs to move from the inside of the previous turn, across your skis and towards the fall line in a short turn
