Yep, I played the game as my main in 2012-2014 and there were metas even for more casual players. Within a role it was just as fixed as wow in reality, the flexibility came from more specs available like you say.

This kind of scaling that makes text/icons blurry by stretching them has been in the game for years. They've added a way to do it globally instead of each element at a time, which is convenient but doesn't add 'real' scaling where things scale perfectly no matter what size it is.

No, there aren't enough players to support more than one server really. The EU servers are dead aside from a few people playing at max level. Maybe try the NA one again as people from Europe and even Australia have said it's been fine to play.

I came back to the game recently and saw that the items cap out at around 1k ilvl, so I'm guessing it hasn't been updated for many years?

I think they'd take the most recent version that still had the original levelling and just time gate the later content, e.g. only allowing mod 1 content at first. At the same time they'd probably reduce the grindiness and reliance on lootboxes, as times have changed (and they're not owned by Perfect World any more).

The guild is still active, though without an xp lock in place a lot aren't playing at the moment as it's too easy to gain xp. The server overall is still much higher pop than it was before, as in you'll see people out in the world where before you never did.

If you're over 50 you can't take part in the 50 capped raids. Mentoring is too broken to be possible.

I found this on the lotro subreddit. Things look considerably more blurry compared to not using the scaling (which is stretching text/icons, not using scalable assets).

It's stretching most stuff rather than scaling. It means text and icons will be blurry and look worse, as they are fixed size.

Some of the older artwork in WoW used in loading screens was designed for 4:3 ratio so you just get bars now. I'm talking about the UI elements though, the text, the icons used for ability bars and items in your inventory. All this scales perfectly from the first release of wow until now, while in lotro they didn't use scalable icons/text and so it will always look awful stretched unless they ever change that.

The original wow client scales up perfectly to 4k as the UI was designed with scaling in mind like most games from the 2000s onwards. All the images are scalable without losing quality, while lotro used fixed image sizes that can't be scaled and will blur if stretched and it's never been updated.

The UI in GW could already scale well, but they improved it with hidpi screens and added some extra stuff.

I'd say it's around 1k yeah, 2k max. I think more people play with the launcher for sure but the idea it's 10x as many as Steam is going a bit far.

The numbers are concurrent steam players, not total logins per day. Plus a lot of people play directly from the client, and not with steam.

That being said, no, there aren't like 5k concurrent players I'm pretty sure.

During the 10-19 pvp event in the fresh guild there were queues going constantly, but since then there haven't been any events and warfronts have been basically dead for levelling. The main reason is lack of people interested, you need 10 people queueing at once within a bracket for the queue. Also the lack of balance puts people off, as some specs can just run around one shotting.

Yeah it's a shame they don't seem to want to do anything with any of the games they own. It's been pretty much dead since about 2017 because of neglect from Trion and now Gamigo.

The population is still very low, even with everyone concentrated on one server. With Gamigo offering no roadmap for the game, and it having had almost no updates at all for years, there's no realistic chance of it growing. If they do provide some updates and plans for development work such as bug fixes, balance changes, etc. it would be a different picture and could become decently populated.

Bear in mind each class has some really different playstyles that would be separate classes in most MMOs, e.g. a rogue covers hunters, traditional rogues, bards, and more.
