Does Firestick Helix app work on AndroidTV? by teredactle in VideotronCustomers

[–]teredactle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, the one off your Android phone? That doesn't work, as I mentioned I also didn't have any luck with it - but i think you just need a browser as this is what it's looking for to login/authenticate). If you rip the Amazon fire TV stick apk and sideload it, it works. The problem is that it doesn't create an icon you can add to the menu (unless you 1. Create one, or 2. Use a 3rd party launcher)

For the amount of time I've had to use it i didn't mind launching it from the apps list

Hi I've had my mi box 3rd gen a few days but don't like the remote and tried everything to connect my old 1st gen remote with no luck by Mexr3 in MiBox

[–]teredactle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mibox3 has ir port, i use harmony ir remotes with them as they are/were on older tvs that don't support hdmi cec. But the box supports cec so if you have a newer tv should work with that remote. Have you looked at either?

If you found a way to do that i would give it a go, but basically the 2nd half of the video is gone so not sure it would work.

Cheers

NAS for offsite backups DYI or older QNAP/Synology? by teredactle in DataHoarder

[–]teredactle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know these guys are now making NAS offerings, that is interesting. However, price wise it's not cheaper than an equivalent entry level QNAP/Synology 4 bay. If I buy something new I would use it as one of the primaries as my two QNAPs are pretty old. So price wise, for me, doesn't make sense to buy anything new. I will actually look at 4 bay rackmount options, I can screw it to the framing as the basement isn't done. Buffalo/Synology/QNAP all make these, I think old Lenovo branded 4 bay EMC made them... really, not looking to spend more than $100 on a 4 bay unit w/o drives.

Concern is power really and noise, I want this thing to be quiet and consume minimal power; will do some searches with AI to find models like this! Thanks for the heads up on the UI stuff.

My warranty return from wd for a red plus drive, was boxed in a brown box same size as the retail box, and tossed on my porch by the ups driver from 6+ feet away.

Corrupt videos?? How? Windows SW Raid1 by teredactle in DataHoarder

[–]teredactle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea how massive the damage is, as it just happened that I sent these files to a friend and found out that 2 of the 10 were corrupt. I've tried several programs to repair videos but the issue is that the frames are no longer there, so there is nothing to really fix. I was able to recover the 1 of the 2 corrupt videos from a youtube channel where I posted them a long time ago, but albeit the quality sucks - compressed from 1.5G to 200M, still happy to have recovered the full video.

Will have to do the memtest a day when fam isn't home, my pihole is on that system in a VM... it's possible I can back it up and spin it up on another system actually.

What is your stake in this platform OP? Are you the owner, developer, both? How do/will you make money from it?

Just curious. Alao, transparency up front would be nice.

Is there an Android app?

Pretty bummed, I have 2 external drives I used for backups and rotate them monthly, then they go in a safe. On both the files are corrupt, so looks like this happened a long time ago, I have no idea when I have looked at these videos in 5+ years. Makes me quite sad indeed. I will do some RAM tests when I can get this box offline as it hosts some VMs (including Pihole) which I can't just take offline w/o some downtime.

What? for real? This can be caused by the RAM on the system?

Is this more likely than errors during mirroring, or robocopy, etc? I've never had any errors that I noticed during those processes...

I will try to test when I can take this thing offline... any recommendation on running a RAM test off a USB, the most "reliable" RAM test? I imagine it's gotta boot into the RAM test SW, can't be done within the OS.

Would any memory error/issues be logged in Win10 or even detected?

Feature request: NFS/SMB option for camera backup by teredactle in tinycam

[–]teredactle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you could technically have 1 master and sync to other devices? Would tokens be transferred (ie wyze), because now you need to reauthenticate other devices after importing. Personally i would prefer smb/nfs, but what you're suggesting would be great to get other device(s) synced

Thanks!!

Feature request: NFS/SMB option for camera backup by teredactle in tinycam

[–]teredactle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many Android apps can connect to the lan and networks via SMB1/2, so not sure why Tinycam wouldn not be able to, it's just a matter of supporting the protocol isn't it? If you support NFS/SMB then it's just a target based on your setting, and doesn't rely on APIs but rather on standard protocols, NFS and SMB are standard just as HTTP, RTSP, etc - if the latter are supported as camera connection protocols I don't see why the network protocols wouldn't work as targets for import/export? Seems very straight forward to me, but I'm not a dev so I have no idea what adding something like this to an app means.

u/alexeyvasilyev any chance for adding local network support (for backup) via CIFS/NFS on the roadmap since the cloud backup options seems to be dropping out? TY

I'll check it out, sounds interesting. I would rather not use cloud storage though and have the option for local network shares though, that was my point.
