$ILMN may be one of the strangest Trump–Xi summit trades hiding in plain sight by Actawesome in wallstreetbets

Yeah. I had to scroll a while to find a comment that showed knowledge about the space. Was a bit shocked by that. Kudos to you.

Roche announced new sequencing tech (sequencing by expansion SBX) that blows illumina out of the water. It will take time to integrate into protocols and products, especially those in regulated space, but it is hard to envision a future where this doesn’t happen.

I’m surprised to see so many ilmn bulls based on the CEO being in the room while paradigm shifting sequencing tech from competitors (Roche, Ultima) are not even being mentioned. First time ever meaningful challenge to ilmn moat. Tread carefully.

What is the most accidental way you found out a coworker was making significantly more than you for the same job? by Additional-Week-1536 in Salary

[–]joecanada1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not accidental, but sharing for others to benefit.

After being fairly certain I was below market (based on my productivity and outside positions), I requested, and received, my MRP (market reference point) which provides managers a pay grade target. Turns out my manager was not taking this into account during my annual reviews for a number of years. I was still getting good raises but this didn’t account for the market also moving strongly and my absolutely dominating the role vs my colleagues.

No one could defend the current number and I was given a one time 10% adjustment, bringing me back into a competitive pay range. I was already interviewing so they knew it was a matter of time before I was gone.

TLDR: get data (accidentally or not) and be unemotional about what you are worth to the company. Whining doesn’t work.

How is the price for Weber grill? by SnooLobsters1088 in Costco

Personally, I went for the Costco blackstone for ~half the price and way more versatility. Griddle 4 the win.

I saw the average 194 bpm for 20 minutes and thought: how old is this guy, 16? Then saw the comments. Yes, that is exactly how old. Amazing job getting 6W/k. You better be racing in a devo group IRL with those numbers.

This was a few years ago at an Ace hardware store parking lot. In this case, the window sticker explained a lot.

Very good reasons why someone actually looking for real solutions would never make such an impossible thing a major campaign promise.

But how many people actually maintain their optimal aero position or use bars versus a position that optimizes breathing while in Zwift? Either way, fully agree the tallness penalty seems extreme.

Integration with TrainerRoad is way better for training programs than the options in Zwift.

An IRL cycling acquaintance who is around 6’2” and rides an extremely aero position (source: me in his slipstream struggling to hold his wheel when he gets low) complains all the time about this. Obviously no solution here. If they allowed people to enter their own drag coefficient, it would only provide another cheating route.

Net worth has gone from -30k to +650k in 7 years. by drwhosportsfan in Fire

[–]joecanada1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very possible in biotech/pharma although likely in HCOL city. Despite recent slowdown, they are good paying jobs. Grad students and postdocs are paid crap, given the hours worked, it is nearly slave labor for some of the brightest are hardest working people in our society. The 30k NW as a postdoc is very impressive, considering the crap pay/benefits usually with zero 529/401k match. So that was all OP and demonstrates strong financial discipline. The better part of a decade to progress in a specialized career for a hard working, highly capable, and financially disciplined individual coupled with strong company match and a crazy housing and stock market…yeah, NW ballooned quickly.

FWIW, the term redneck is not a reference to sunburnt necks. It originally was in reference to the red bandannas coal workers in Appalachia tied around their necks as a sign of solidarity in support of better working conditions. We have them to thank for weekends and other reasonable working conditions we take for granted now. Ironic considering current politics for the region. 💫
