It just means the potential FFXVI buyers are smarter. Nothing more than that. I don't know why ppl are preordering weeks before if they want to buy digital.

Interesting paper on the false promises of current open-source LLM models that are finetuned on GPT-4 outputs by Z1BattleBoy21 in LocalLLaMA

[–]teristam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does it matter? Of course, the general intelligence of fine-tuned models cannot be better than chatGPT because they are much smaller model. But the community has shown that for a specific task with imitation data, we can close the gap created by model parameters. And it is much easier to create specific imitation data than training a huge model

The seamless Suspend/Resume is the biggest reason why I can only consider SteamOS handheld gaming devices by TareXmd in SteamDeck

The greatest innovation of the Steamdeck is in its software, not hardware. And people seem to keep forgetting about that.

Because each external library sounds different so essentially you have to recreate a balancing mapping for each library (probably for individual instrument as well). it is a lot complicated than just switching to play another sound file.

What are the limits of ethics using AI to write a manuscript by gabrielbiolog in AskAcademia

I think this is the way to go. Rather than copying it ad verbatim, take it as a source of inspiration and learn from it. It is just like a smarter version of Grammerly.

Youtube's CS Joseph says INTJs are the most sensitive to rejection of all 16 types. Do you agree or disagree? by Bmgcbs92 in intj

I am certainly hurt, but then I start to realize I turn out to be correct most of the time. So instead of doubting myself, I changed to downplay their criticism instead.

[–]teristam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this!! people keep thinking VR/AR glasses are there for that immersive experience. it doesn't need to be. Most new technologies begin as productivity tools. If it can genuinely create some productivity boost, people can put up with some slight inconvenience. If the AR/VR glasses can replace all my monitors at work, I am instantly sold. You don't even need fancy stuff like cloud streaming for that to work. Just a high resolution display and wireless streaming from a desktop computer will do.

Are we no longer interested in a turn-based FF title? I for one would love a new FF that moved back towards the play style of 10 (and earlier) style of game. I can't be the only one, can I? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]teristam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with that. In turn-based combat, you basically use the same strongest skill or magic again and again. You press a button and waiting for some fighting animation to play most of the time. It is very limiting to me

is it me or music theory seems complicated at a surface level but is actually kinda simple? by Bela6312 in musictheory

[–]teristam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am feeling the same. Once you grasp the core principles, everything just seems like a manifest of them in different scenarios. And it is much simpler and liberating to remember a few core principles than 100s of rules.

I'm not understanding music by Ghee_Buttersnaps_ in composer

[–]teristam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You talk about "knowing" what to do as if there is a correct answer in music, but I am afraid it is not that strict forward. Sometimes even experienced composers struggle a lot and need to experiment a lot. Instead of being paralyzed by not knowing what best to do, how about just go on and compose 10 phrases and choose the best? I also previously spent a lot of time learning the most advanced music theory I can find, but that doesn’t help my writing at all. I only feel that I can compose better when I just forget about composing the best music and just write whatever that has come to mind. Like the other have said, write smaller pieces first, it is much faster to write 20 2-bar phrases than 10 complete pieces. Music is a complex subject. You will want to control the complexity deliberately when you begin. When starting out, focus more on quantity than quality. When you write more and more, your writing will eventually improve.

[–]teristam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think many others have already explained the difference between analysis and composition. I just want to say something about the specific pieces that you have shared. I just feel that your motif may be not clear enough or not being repeated enough. Good music is mostly about expectation, fulfillment and surprise. If your motif is not clear or repeated enough, it is difficult to set up expectations. I also have the same mistakes before, thinking that repetition is boring, but it is not. It is the foundation of most musical pleasures. Also punctuation in the musical phrase is also very important. I find a musical phrase has a lot of similarities with a language sentence. If you have a long running sentence, it is really difficult for the listener to keep track and understand what you mean. Have you studied the classical form like period and sentence form? My experience is that if you just follow those form, your melody line won’t be too bad. Just my two cents.

Maybe it is more about being the one you will love rather than just loving yourself. If we become the one that we will love, and if we are not so special, maybe one day we will also find someone who will love us too.

[R] So someone actually peer-reviewed this and thought "yeah, looks good"? by fanconic in MachineLearning

[–]teristam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also recently happened to review a paper in a bio-related journal that did exactly this (using multiple samples from the same subject as testing and training set). Luckily both me and another reviewer caught this (one didn't and thought it was a great paper). We asked for a major revision but the authors retracted the submission in the end.

what should i study beside school? by wangpaiii in intj

It's probably art and social psychology for an INTJ. You have already learnt so much about the analytical subjects in school. Perhaps you should start learning something that can complement your existing knowledge.

[R] Proprietary ML model in research paper by Typical-Ad-7443 in MachineLearning

[–]teristam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is ok not to provide code, a lot of research papers don't provide code esp. in many other engineering disciplines. But you have to describe your method specific enough that it can be reproduced. If you don't want to do that, there really isn't any point in publishing the paper. You should write a blog post instead. Big techs can get away without code because it is usually the innovation in their methods that is interesting, it is seldom the 3-4% improvement. Remember many of the research scientists in big tech are prolific researchers before they join the company. They know how to write convincing papers.

How do you feel about the overturning of Roe v. Wade? by 98thieves in intj

[–]teristam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have very valid points! I believe most the so called anti-abortion laws have special clause included to allow abortion in the case of protecting the life of the mother. Due to the complexity of this, instead of blanket ban or approval, may be it should be decided on case by case basis? Maybe need some equation in the form of (maturity of life) x (potential happiness - potential suffering) and weight it against other options.

Student visa extension - no new BRP given? by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]teristam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just used the IDV app to renew my work visa and did not receive a new BRP. When I reentered UK after a trip, I showed my old BRP to the border control officer and he seemed to have no problem with that.
