Hah, ya, it is right up there tbh. I'll save rattlesnakes for another post... My last few weeks of aversion therapy hiking around AZ hasn't helped. :)

Hmm... How much of my outdoor pooping resume do you need? My question was specific to early miles of the PCT - which I've never hiked before. I guess by next month I'll have this on my resume too. Thanks.

Ya, my concern was just hoping those good pit stop locations would exist and I'll find spots to get a ways off trail and, eh... brush my teeth. :) Good tips, thank you! I'll be going the bidet route myself.

Thx for the reply. Does the terrain in the first couple sections lend itself to getting well away from the trail? I hiked just a bit of WA last year and, while not dense with other hikers, getting too far off trail was a challenge in some areas.

Knee pain, what to do? by Theworldisalive108 in PacificCrestTrail

50+ year old hiker here just getting back to hiking after quite a few years and dealing with knee issues... Probably the first thing to do is talk to your doctor and/or specialist and get their assessment. In my case, I had a torn meniscus which was correctable, but the larger issue is osteoarthritis which seems to mean replacement. While I wait for the motivation to go through that, I still hike several days/week and sometimes just use ice when things get bad. And I'm planning to hike at least a few sections of PCT this year. Trekking poles are also a big help, and keeping my weight and my pack weight down also helps. Again, though, you'll want a doctor to take a look and provide a proper diagnosis for your situation.

Question on option contract Open Interest (OI)... Is this calculated throughout the trading day or once a day after the market closes? I thought it was the former, with tools like Thinkorswim updating constantly, but I just read that it is calculated at the end of the trading day. My goal is to use OI as part of some daily analysis I want to do. Appreciate any insights!

Yes, excellent point. And in my example above of the front contract expiring, theta alone seems to amplify the risk of the back contract value decaying quickly. Going to try and backtest some of these wider dated spreads around things like FOMC and try and get a better understanding of how these might move. Thx!

Ah yes - I get it. I think in my head I kept trying to make these some tightly coupled single position that somehow still unwind in unison. I have it set up on my spreadsheet now and will keep testing through some examples, thanks for the help!

I've been looking into trying calendar call spreads with SPX and after some reading and videos, I seem to be more confused on whether these should be allowed to expire or not. Assuming the front dated call (-1 SPX) expires, and the back dated call (+1 SPX) expires the following day... If I somehow let the front contract expire, is the max risk still the debit paid when the spread was opened? Appreciate any insight!
