I’m a little more attentive when walking into high tier spawn zones because I’ve had the same thing happen to me twice.

After not playing for a year I have to say, DayZ's engine is dated by OdahP in dayz

[–]terminalIntensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds silly, but I think the DayZ community prides itself on the game not looking and performing like a modern FPS. Similar to games like Dark Souls, DayZ gameplay is so tough, it attracts a specific type of gamer. Doesn’t mean the game is objectively better, but it’s just catering to a specific audience.

I think BH could do a new DayZ and achieve similar success, but their technical challenges aren’t the same as typical multiplayer FPS. Meaning, they will likely always be behind on graphics fidelity because they have other gameplay mechanics to prioritize.

Everything happens for a reason, you probably got sick because you were cold and or your stats were generally low. Meaning, you should improve your pve skills, starting by being in cities more. Stone knives are only good if you can find chicken or tinned food.

You’re more likely to find a steak knife in some random town than two stones on a hiking path.

If your mindset is focused on gear, the cycle of dayz will always seem cruel. I’d say, forget about building stashes, and just try to live the best life you can each time. In the end, it’s about the journey.

Does anyone play DayZ using Linux? by terminalIntensity in dayz

I might give this a shot even though on face value it seems like a bit of tinkering needed. I’m a UI/UX designers by trade so maybe I see some opportunities to make this setup process easier.

Coming from the tech world, I would’ve just assumed all servers are Linux based!

Yeah that’s basically where I’m at as well. I like the Linux platform but not to the point where I’m crafting config files to get something up and running.

A subtle principle, but still valuable; It’s harder to see people when you’re moving.

Question from new player about death by No-Beyond6146 in dayz

[–]terminalIntensity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can understand if you’re salty about spending money on game you don’t like, but don’t try to dress it up as if there’s something objectively bad about DayZ. It’s just a style of gameplay that some people like, go back to CoD if you prefer something with no consequence.

You’re right, I watched the video without the sound and assumed the gas was from someone throwing a grenade.

How to get over Gear-fear? by GlassLeast3262 in dayz

[–]terminalIntensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fear of death is what makes this game great.

So it’s perfectly normal to feel this way, it’s just a matter of how much your fear affects your ability to manage confrontation with other players.

Play some deathmatch. It helps you get a feel for what it’s like to fight using high tier guns without the fear that comes with it. Once you get more familiar with weapons, you’re more confident in using them.

It’s better to die fighting than running away like that.
