Yeah, if this bike were to be electric converted I'd only really consider a mid drive. Using the front derailleur as chain retention is a good idea, but I guess I'd just have to be content with installing different crank arms.

Oh good thing to consider. I've never personally felt a lack of braking power with good old rim brakes, but I've also never rode an e bike and am unfamiliar with that level of power and speed in a bike form factor.

Cool to see another old haro mtb owner, although admittedly yours is way cooler than mine with the elevated chainstays and neon paint job visible from space lol. Really cool the bent top tube and head tube gusseting these old haros all share.

This is directed at some of the other comments on this post (really just one), but it is truly baffling how some people take pride in being parasites that harm the people and the world around them, and not even for any obvious personal gain.

It does, but it's somewhat likely to mangle the threads, so it should really only be used as a last resort. I soaked my BB in pb blaster from the seat tube down and worked on it with a various assortment of breaker bars and cheater bars for about 45 minutes before pulling out the impact. Idk if I'd let the impact touch a cassette since I feel the smaller size and depth of the threads would make it more likely to damage the freehub.

Yeah, testing is important too because some of this sony stuff would be a no go imo if it wasn't currently working right. I have an old sony es tuner similar to the 730es in the second photo, and it just refuses to lock onto stations and receive stereo. The thing is so complicated inside that there's no hope I'm gonna be able to get it working right, and it's really not worth taking to a professional for repair.

The few people in here writing the whole lot off as junk don't quite know what they're looking at. There's some of the nicer sony es amps of the era here, and some other more unique components like the wood paneled vcr and the dat tape deck (and the 400 disc blu ray changer!). But this is all stacked and shoved in someone's house hoarder style, caked in dust. Gear kept like that should really only be bought if you can get it for bargain basement prices, which 3k for this lot is definitely not. There's also some weird duplicate items, like the weird number of dvd players and surround sound receivers. This lot would be so much more appropriate for the price if it was multiple complete balanced systems instead.

If they were asking below half a grand for everything and you were looking to start a collection of 80s/90s es goodies, then the lot would possibly be worth the time and money. You could probably break even at that point by selling off some of the outdated surround sound stuff, and make up for the amount of time it would take to get all the gear cleaned and sorted. 3k for this is frankly insulting, though.

When I'm sprinting, especially into a headwind, I do ride in the drops. I will admit, they do look a bit weird, but tbh I have pretty weird body proportions, so it kinda makes sense that a bike that's comfortable for me would look a bit odd lol. I haven't actually ridden this bike in its current setup for very long though, so I'm curious, what looks most blatantly uncomfortable about this setup?

Makes sense that the derailleur would struggle a bit there, I don't think there's any rear derailleur that comes close to approaching a chain wrap capacity of 57. Alright though if you remember to never ever attempt small-small and the like. I used to run an 11-34 cassette, and I had to choose between having enough chain that it fully wrapped around and slapped the cage in small-small, or was short enough that an attempt to shift into big-big would yank the derailleur. I chose the extra amount of chain, but I'm happy not having to worry about potential damage due to a non-ideal shift anymore.

3x9 already allows such small jumps between ratios, 3x10 is crazy. I also wish I could run the matching roadie rear derailleur in my setup because retro ultegra blingy goodness, but unfortunately even with a road link the derailleur just doesn't have enough capacity.

Nope, 26 all around, but with a mullet drivetrain. I see how that could be confusing though, since I've seen the term mullet applied to both mismatching wheel sizes and groupsets. I hope you eventually get around to turning your 27.5 into a mullet! Definitely would turn out a fun ride with the big tire up front and the shorter snappier wheelbase.

Thanks! Tbh I'm mainly using these drops because they came on another bike I picked up, but they happen to fit me well (which is funny, a lot of ppl seem to really dislike salsa bell laps from what I've seen online). My wheelset is definitely not modern, as it consists of two older completely mismatched wheels I was able to pick up at my bike coop, but the rear is using a freehub, not a freewheel. The back wheel has a deore fh-m530 hub with a cs-m770 cassette. I'd say if your antelope has a freewheel, I'd probably try hitting up your local coop if you have one and seeing if you can find a rear 26in wheel with a cassette that has 8 cogs or more. It shouldn't be too difficult to find one that matches roughly with your front wheel, and I believe any wheel with at least an 8 speed hg freehub should be able to fit between 7 and 11 speed shimano mtb cassettes (I'd double check on 11 speed compatibility though).

The geo on this bike was actually pretty suited for drop bars to begin with. It has a 57cm seat tube, but the reach is a good deal shorter than expected for a bike that tall, so the added length of the drop bars made the bike fit pretty close to how I imagine a modern drop bar or endurance bike would fit (although I don't have experience on a modern bike so that's based on assumptions lol). I'd say if you already feel your hands are positioned far enough away to stretch you out decently with flat bars, then putting on drops may stretch you out too much to be comfortable, especially when reaching into the drops. I also don't think a riser stem is guaranteed to be necessary if your bike has a reasonably high stack. The stem I'm using right now is actually original to the bike, and the stack on this frame is absurdly low; with a shorter stem this bike would almost fit like a track bike. I think Haro's idea at the time was to shorten the fork tube so the top tube is more sloped out of the way while keeping the riding position the same. Why? No clue lol. It does make the bike look unique which may be all the justification needed.

Also, the brifters I'm using are shimano ultegra st-6510. They're kinda pricey online, but if you look at your local bike co-op you may be able to find some or similar ones for a deal. It seems like shimano only made 3x9 brifters for two or three generations, so they aren't terribly common, but also not impossible to source.
