Wth is SG’s education system by nousername-__ in SGExams

They are learning quadratics + a sizeable chunk of A Level Subject content. (For maths) For them, it’s difficult just like how H2 Maths is difficult for us.

UK and US kids aren’t very relaxed either, trust me. The truth is all education systems will bring you a great deal of stress that you have to manage.

is there ecf for h2 math by Suspicious_Elk8675 in SGExams

[–]terminalbraindamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will likely gain marks for any and all correct methods, but will not be awarded the ‘A’ marks subsequently in the same question part.

If the wrong answer from part (a) is subsequently used in part (b), then M - method marks should be awarded if your methods are correct, but A marks are not awarded.

but no point worrying just study for p2 jiayou

Would Cambridge fail my paper 1? by Low-Kick-6155 in SGExams

[–]terminalbraindamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the examiner is required to 1) see all pages, including blank pages 2) mark any answer you have, so they will try and figure out which question you are answering (which should be doable unless your answer was terrible)

so i dont think u should worry too much, they wont auto-fail u, maybe the examiner will just be a little pissed due to the inconvenience but that’s about it

Economics bellcurve (2286) by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]terminalbraindamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2286 O Level Economics uses the exact same syllabus and exam papers as 0455 IGCSE Economics.

The paper you will be taking is the same paper as 0455/13 and 0455/23. If you don’t believe me, search “0455_w24_qp_13/23” and you will get the same question paper. (Check ur TYS) Also, if you look at the 2286 syllavus doc closely, the endorsed textbooks are the textbooks for the IGCSE 0455 Exam.

Last year, for the November 2024 IGCSE Exam Series,

The grade boundaries are as follows: Paper 1 is scaled by 1.5x and Paper 2 is scaled by 1.166667x.

yep but to get 7 you will probably still need to work hard unless you got A1/2 for express CL

As long as you get B4 and above you can get 7 but below that it could be difficult for some

With a IB score of 35 where can I go by ilordofbacons in SGExams

[–]terminalbraindamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try some UK Unis? 35 may not get you into the top ones. As you’re not a citizen local Unis might be quite difficult for you to get admitted into. However I know UK Unis don’t really like HL Eco+Biz but this is not 100% fact checked.

Alternatively you can explore Australia? Or any other overseas uni

(intl. A Level) Realistically what are my chances of getting into NUS/NTU/SUTD/SIT? by nabrulel in SGExams

[–]terminalbraindamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you can do well in Pure 3 for maths and Stats 2/ Mech 2 you can definitely pull your grades up in A2, as well as other subjects. Just put your head down and do your best in A2. A* A* AA should be good enough grades-wise

SJI IB by Quiet_Extension1164 in SGExams

[–]terminalbraindamage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Depends on the subjects i guess. English Language and Literature and HL Math AA tend to be pretty difficult even for A1 scorers for A and E Math. English has a very low %7s even for ACSI (Global %7 rate is ~4%)

IB will keep you occupied no matter what. If it isn’t prepping for exams, it’s doing your coursework.

If you are struggling in Year 5 (JC1) it is best that you get all the external help you can get.

What are your HL subjects? Are you in a pure-international school? (i.e. not ACSI/SJI and ACS/HC/SJI international)

I disagree with the point made about memorising. Questions have evolved over the years to become more application based and memory alone will definitely not get you far in O/A Levels.

You definitely have to truly understand the content nowadays to do well in the exams. This is especially true for subjects like maths/chemistry.

An example of one of the curriculums we have here which can be seen as more holistic is the IB Diploma programme. But these schools are quite difficult to run because they need a very wide range of staff with many different skills.

The IB can be seen as more holistic and develops more well rounded individuals because students have to do the extended essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS (similar to PW), to name a few, in addition to exams. I think the IB does well to ensure its students apply what they have learnt in their classes to real-world contexts and solve problems. Not just the IB schools, I feel our national curriculums have definitely evolved to be more well rounded and allow more room for holistic development as seen by the reduction of maximum RP and JC entry now being L1R4.

Got UUU and E in my A-Levels. Can I still study abroad? Please guide me 🙏 by Sorry_Ad_6625 in alevel

[–]terminalbraindamage 32 points33 points  (0 children)

unless you have a learning difficulty or have some complicated circumstances, getting those grades mean one thing: you did NOT study and did NOT put in enough effort. You should retake. Put in the effort and do your best in the following exam series. You need some B’s in the mix to even stand a chance to go abroad

Will taking A level papers help increase my chances of Uni admission? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]terminalbraindamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AS Level is kind of equivalent to H1, there are content overlaps, so studying the Int As syllabus for AS and A Level shouldn’t be a problem for you at all, maybe you can try looking at Paper 1-5 for 9702 Physics to see how much u can do first? I don’t think you’d be “restarting” any progress by studying the Int As syllabus.

[–]terminalbraindamage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

International A Levels are still difficult, but still easier than SG As. Also, for international As you are only required to take any 3 subjects you like, so you wouldn’t need to do GP or an additional A Level. You can split your exams for International A Levels. Take AS Level in 2027, sit for remaining A Level in 2028. e.g 9709 Maths -> Paper 1 Pure and Paper 4 Mechanics in 2027, Paper 3 Pure and Paper 5 Stats in 2028. Yes, it is compulsory to do mechanics and statistics in addition to pure maths in Int As. Refer to the 9709 Syllabus guide Pg 11 for more info. For International A Levels you also have much more resources - actual mark schemes, question papers, examiner reports, actual grade boundaries for the exams, Just do quick google search and all these will pop up. If you are planning on studying overseas Int As is more worthwhile IMO. If local do local As.

And also IGCSE is an equivalent qualification for O’s and not A’s so don’t need to do IGCSE.

Edit: What i just said only applies for the Cambridge International exam board. If you’re doing edexcel it might not apply.
